Why A Change In Our Mass Schedule? We are called as a Catholic community to “full, active and conscious participation” in our Sunday liturgies. At St Francis de Sales we try to create liturgies that call us forth to pray and celebrate our faith in the best way possible. We have watched the Sunday 5pm Mass over the last 6 years. Growth has been nominal. Participa-tion is minimal. Financial support of the parish is negligible.

With Fr. Rick’s return to Kenya the prospect of finding an ‘extra’ priest to help out is not a viable option. We have limited resources and seek to use these resources wisely. It is our hope that if we encourage folks to choose another weekend Mass to pray and participate in, (Sat 5pm, Sun 9, 11 and 12:30) we can foster a more vibrant Eucharistic celebration at these litur-gies. We prayerfully ask you to consider choosing to create community, rather than opt for conven-ience here at St Francis de Sales.

Small Christian Communities are Now Mee ng for Advent!!

Small Christian Communities are a way to make our amazing parish even more prayerful and centered in Christ. November into December small groups of adults will meet at a variety of times to pray together with the Sunday scrip-tures and reflect on how to make Jesus’ word more active in our lives. Please take some time this week to prayerfully look at your schedule and see if you would like to participate in a small group. We would love to pray with you.

SFDS Youth Ministry Our Youth Ministry team is working hard trying to create a fantastic year of thoughtful events and activities for our outstanding parish youth. Please remember to keep the team and our kids in your daily prayers. If you are interested in finding out more about what’s scheduled please email : [email protected] You are always welcome!!

The First Sunday of Advent Be Watchful! Be Alert!

and Family Sharing

Appreciating the Word—Be Watchful! Be Alert! I remember hearing a story a ways back that always makes me smile. I think it went like this: some very pious seminarians approached Pope John XXIII and asked very earnestly “Holy Father, if Jesus were to come today, if this was the time for the second coming, what should we do?” With tongue firmly planted in cheek I’m sure, the good Pope responded “look busy!” This gospel reminds me that I want God to find me doing good works. Wouldn’t it be terrible if we were caught be-ing the lesser version of ourselves? Gossiping? Cheating? Being selfish? It’s so easy to get lazy in our spiritual life. Being alert to where God is moving in our lives takes mindfulness. As we begin another Advent this reading is a wonderful reminder, at least for these four weeks, to try to be our better selves. As God watches us, God is always hoping in us, that we choose what is right and good, holy and healthy as often as we can. So for Advent, let us re-mind ourselves too, that we want to look purposefully to find where and how God is acting in our daily lives. Choose good. Choose God.

Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

CURIOUS ABOUT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH-ADULT INITIATION You know we talk about RCIA all the time….we always want to make sure you know what that is…the RITE OF CHRIS-TIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS is simply put, the way folks with questions about the Catholic church learn about us and if they desire, how they become Catholic. It is the most amazing gift to be a part of someone’s faith journey. We have one of the few YEAR ROUND processes in the Archdiocese of NY. That means that anyone can begin their journey by coming to ask their questions at any point in the year. It also means that we always love to have parishioners join us, helping with hospi-tality and making strangers feel welcome on any Monday night. If you have cookies in your house that you know you should-n’t be eating…why not bring them by on a Monday night and stay for the conversation? If you like to bake or want to donate a case of water…come join us for prayer and some faith talk. Get to know our inquirers and let them learn about SFDS by meeting you. We gather at 7pm in the parish house and you (and your friend with questions about the Catholic church) are always welcome.
