This summer, the

Summer at St. George's
always has a different
rhythm; a little quieter,
a little slower. Attend-

opportunity to spend
Sunday morning quietly
at home or choose to
encounter God in walks

It’s hard to believe that
last year this time we

was very high.

the Renewal Works re-

the annual meeting in
February. Since then

ing Prayer.
We step in to serve as ac-
olytes, readers or LEMs
when someone is absent,
and it's always
nice to see the good spirit
in which people take on
an extra Sunday task.
Parishioners offer care for
one another, or step into
the humid and buggy
woods to clean up a storm
damaged tree. The whole
parish works together to
keep St. George's cool and
lively even in the over-
heated doldrums of sum-
mer.
The structure of parish
governance also serves us
well in Connie's absence.
While she is gone, the
vestry continues to per-
form their duties and the
Senior Warden, supported
by the Junior Warden, is
responsible for the well-
being of the parish.
It's a commitment that
St. George's is here for us.
Our community of faith is
all of us, each member
vital to our vitality. Of
course we'll welcome Con-
nie back with pleasure,
but it's great knowing
that at St. George's, the
beat goes on.

Our parish has a tradition
of reaching out to support
one another. Connie+, of
course, is the core of our
parish pastoral care, and
we know how gifted she is
in providing such care.
But St. Georgians have
always stepped forward to
help when there is a need.
As you probably know,
Connie+ will be gone in
August for the continua-
tion of her sabbatical. The

The recommendations are
in the process of being
implemented and the
Vestry reviews the status
monthly. At the June 16
vestry meeting we re-
viewed the status of the
following high priority
items:
Keeping communica-
tions up to date and
distributing communi-
cations in multiple
ways,
Adding outreach to
planned social activi-
ties,
Education on the
Book of Common
Prayer and using
prayer books as a
spiritual resource,
Including daily devo-
tions in the bulletin
and/or in email and
Continued opportuni-
ties for Bible study,
Posting podcasts of
Sunday sermons on
St. George’s webpage,
Continued support of/
participation in Gay-
wood Elementary
School, Safe Haven,
and the Food Bank.
The Vestry will keep you
posted on a regular basis
as the recommendations
are implemented.

fecting the parish,

ing hospitality after
the 10:00 service each
Sunday and organiz-
ing special events dur-
ing the year (such as,

Connie+ is also ex-
ploring forming a
Youth Committee.
These changes also reflect
St. George’s continued
growth in membership
and attendance. A Vestry
member serves on each of
the committees but no
longer chairs each com-
mittee.

Melena Yang worked with
the Vestry at their March
retreat. The result was a
Responsibility Matrix
based on the recommen-
dations. For each recom-
mendation the vestry
identified:
A description and suc-
cess measures.
Priority (high, medi-
um, or low).
Timeline for imple-
mentation.
Who would be in-
volved with each rec-
ommendation, from
the rector, wardens,
vestry, congregation,
external community,
church office, and the
various committees
and what their role
will be (responsible,
accountable, consult-
ed, and informed).
The vestry is current-
ly in the process of
identifying indicators
of success for each of
the recommendations.
One of the changes insti-
tuted from the recommen-
dations is that in addition
to the three committees
established to support En-
suring Our Future
(Buildings and Grounds,
Education and Spiritual
Development and Out-
reach and Social Justice) ,
there are four additional

during the weekend,
there are three events we
hope you will consider
attending.
On Saturday morning,
9/26, at 10 am, we will
gather next to the shower
room, located off of Loop
B near sites 60 and 61, to
go on a nature walk led
by naturalist (and fellow
St. Georgian) Tom
Beal. Come and learn
about the amazing things
in the park.
On Saturday evening
from 6 pm – 10 pm, we
will gather in the
“Campfire Circle” located
off of Loop B between
sites 60 and 61 to share
some worship and enter-
tainment. We will have a
seasonal based liturgy led
by St. George’s members,
followed by a campfire, S
‘mores, drinks, and the

Most people
will be arriving
in the late af-
ternoon and
early evening
hours of Friday,
9/25, and some
may only be
spending either
one of the two
nights there.
Everyone who
is interested is
expected to
bring their own
food and camp-
ing equip-
ment. We will
be gathering in
sites in Loop B,
which is the
first camping
area on the left
after entering the
Campground section of
the park.
If you are not interested
in camping, but want to
participate in some of the
As in years past, members
of St. George’s will be
spending the 4th weekend
of September camping at
Greenbelt National Park.
The park is located just
4.5 miles down Greenbelt
road from the church. The
address is 6565 Greenbelt
Road and the entrance to
the park is directly across
from the TGI Friday’s
Restaurant and Capital
Cadillac.
There are tent and RV
spaces available for just
$16 per night per
space. All campers will be
required to pay their own
site fees at the Ranger
Station at the
Campground entrance.
St. George’s
members always
have a wonderful
time camping and
worshipping at
Greenbelt Park.

Ensuring Our
Future is already
making a
difference at St.
George’s. Match
Bishop Mariann
Budde’s pledge and
help us reach our
goals!
Join Bishop Mariann Budde in supporting St. George’s Ensuring Our Future Campaign
If you’d like to make a
pledge or increase your
pledge, speak to Mary
Frances Bruce or Jennifer
BevanDangel, or see any
vestry member. Any of
these people can answer
your questions about the
campaign and the plan
that we’ve implemented
for responsible steward-
ship of the EoF funds.
As we work to close the
gap and celebrate the suc-
cess of the campaign,
you’ll be hearing more
about Ensuring Our Fu-
ture over the next few
months. We’ll be thank-
ing those who have
pledged. And with your
help, we’ll soon be shar-
ing the news that we’ve
met our goal!
among the people of St.
George’s and you are re-
sponding in faithfulness
and love. I am proud to be
your bishop and add my
financial support to en-
sure St. George’s future
vibrancy and growth”.
This is our opportunity to
respond as the Bishop
has, with a gift that will
help us close the last gap
between our pledges and
our goal of $250,000.
With $211,000 in pledges
we are at 84% of our goal.
We need only $39,000 to
meet our goal. Now is the
time to take that step. If
you have not pledged,
please consider doing so
as a symbol of your own
appreciation for St.
George’s.
We’ve been so lucky that,
in the time since Bishop
Mariann Budde came to
our diocese, she’s visited
us for the dedication of
our windows, for a bap-
tism, and on her official
parish visits. She’s ob-
served our community
and expressed her appre-
ciation in many ways.
This year, the Bishop
showed her confidence in
our parish in a very tangi-
ble way by making a gen-
erous contribution to our
Ensuring our Future
(EoF) campaign.
You might ask why Bish-
op Mariann chose to join
us with a personal contri-
bution for our future. In
her own words,“ God is
