Dear Parishioners, Today in our Gospel, John the Baptist says, “One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” This is the scriptural foundation of our Christian baptism. John was a humble man. He knew that he was not the Messiah. He knew that he was called to prepare the way for the Messiah. He baptized people in water, so that Jesus could fully baptize them with fire and the Holy Spirit. Today’s feast calls to mind the day of our own baptism. Do you remember your own baptism? What stories have you heard about the day you were baptized? Our baptism is the first step in our lives as People of God. We are cleansed and marked so that we can be filled with gifts and graces from the Holy Spirit. It is the beginning of our journey with Christ. In that journey we are called to grow in holiness, serve others, and build up the Kingdom of God. Let us continue to thank God for the graces we have received in Baptism and preach the Good News to others with our lives. In Christ, Fr. Jeff Baker

Yo los he bautizado a ustedes con agua, pero él los bautizara con el Espirito Santo”. Este es el fundamento bíblico de nuestro bautismo cristiano. Juan era un hombre humilde. Sabía que él no era el Mesías. Sabía que estaba llamado a preparar el camino para el Mesías. Bautizó a las personas en agua, para que Jesús pudiera bautizarlas completamente con fuego y el Espíritu Santo. La fiesta de hoy nos recuerda el día de nuestro propio bautismo. ¿Recuerda su propio bautismo? ¿Qué historias ha escuchado sobre el día en que se bautizó? And his commandments are not burdensome, for whoever is begotten by God conquers the world. And the victory that conquers the world is our faith. Who indeed is the victor over the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is the one who came through water and blood, Jesus Christ, not by water alone, but by water and blood. The Spirit is the one who testifies, and the Spirit is truth. So there are three that testify, the Spirit, the water, and the blood, and the three are of one accord. If we accept human testimony, the testimony of God is surely greater. On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through

him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he

suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and

the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has

spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
