My dear brothers and sisters, Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension, where Jesus ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father, and in the first reading we hear, “Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven.” The people of Galilee had such a profound experience - a true gift from God. Jesus invites us into that same experience. He calls us into a deeper relationship with Him. He calls us into contemplation. To have that deeper relationship with God, maybe God is challenging us to look at how we pray to Him. How do we pray to God? How do we describe our prayer life? There are many forms of prayer. We can simply pray the Our Father, or maybe the rosary. We also have the Divine Mercy chaplet. Other forms of prayer are obviously the Sacraments (that many of us long to celebrate what we are used to), but also a simple conversation with God. I talk to Him; He talks to me. For contemplation, God challenges us to go deeper into our heart and our soul. God challenges us to connect with him in the very core of our being. It is an opportunity to let go completely, enter into silence and let God take over. Simply give God 20 minutes of silence. Some may find that as a challenge. There are so many things to do. Feed the children, clean the house, take care of the garden. One way to look at this is - God gave us life, love, everything. Spending time with Him for 20 min to be reminded of that, is simply priceless. In that 20 minutes, let go of all the anxiety, worries, excitements that we may have, and let God enter into your heart. You take out all that is not of God, and breathe in God’s love, mercy and friendship. When we get deeper and deeper into this prayer, the experience is beautiful! We just need to try and let go. If we get distracted, offer it up to God. If we get bored, let the boredom go, and let God back in. He wants us to be with Him. in this life and the next. He wants us to be with Him and Final banquet that he is praying for all of us. My brothers and sisters, in these challenging times, God is calling us to get closer to Him. Let God be number one in your life. He has given us everything. Can we make time for God every day?

PRAYER MEDITATION FOR THE ASCENSION

Lord Jesus, I adore you,

Son of Mary, my Saviour and my Brother, for You are God. I follow You in my

thoughts, O first-fruits of our race, as I hope one day by Your grace to follow

You in my person into heavenly glory. Until then, do not let me neglect the earthly task

which You have given me. Let me labour diligently all my life with a

greater appreciation for the present. Let me realize that only by accomplishing true

human fulfillment can I attain Divine fulfillment and ascend to

You at the completion of my work.

Amen.

PRAYER IN A TIME OF PANDEMIC

O God of compassion, your people are anxious in this time of pandemic.

Send your Holy Spirit among us to dispel our fears.

We cry out to you in our confusion; comfort us in our affliction.

Grant our leaders wisdom to guide us. Strengthen and sustain those who are ill,

and be with those who care for them. Help us to travel this road

in solidarity with our neighbors, with our eyes fixed on the salvation promised us through the death and

resurrection of your Son,

who is Lord forever and ever. Amen.

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You

are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment

receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I

embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.

Pope Francis’s Prayer to Mary during Coronavirus Pandemic

O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm.

You, Salvation of Your People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.

Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

Amen!
