The Roman Catholic Parish of St James and St William of York Reading 22nd July 2018 16th Week Ordinary Time Fr John writes: NAME BADGE SUNDAY TODAY AND NEXT SUNDAY Today when we arrive at Mass we will be invited to write our name on a badge. The aim is to learn each other’s names. During the Mass we will be invited to stand and turn to our neighbour and introduce ourselves. At the end of this brief conversation we will exchange name badges and promise to remember and pray during the coming week for the person we met at Mass. ESTABLISHING CONNECT GROUPS IN THE PARISH We are planning to establish small groups in the parish called CONNECT GROUPS”. This is a ‘Follow Up’ to the good experience of small groups during the Alpha series. Each group will have a leader for a series of 4 - 6 meetings in the autumn. It is up to each group to establish dates, venues and the content of their meeting. Many have come to a deeper faith in Christ for the first time, have come into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and have had a real experience of the Holy Spirit during the Alpha series. We don’t want to loose this. The small group is a safe place to share faith and to testify their own personal growth in faith. Each evening could begin with shared food, a time of singing and praying, a talk/presentation/input of some kind and a time praying for and with one another. Is this too much to ask ? For now you may wish to reflect if this is for you. We will have an open meeting for all on CONNECT GROUPS” on Mon 17th Sept at 7.30pm at St James church. He was the first apostle to suffer martyrdom—slain by Herod’s orders. According to legend his remains were carried by boat to Spain. Today a great cathedral has been built over his tomb at Santiago de Compostella. Take a look at paintings in our shrine to St James, where all these events are commemorated. Mass at 12.15pm.
