Here we are at the last Sunday in August, which happens to be the Twenty Second Sun-

day in Ordinary Time. So, let me start to preview the fall here at St. Jerome.

As you know we are part of an interfaith, multi-racial, community organization called

CONECT, Congregations Organized for a New Connecticut. Our purpose is to work to-

gether to use power (organized people and organized money) to work for the common

good, and often against power that is being used against people.

This fall we are planning to do a training so that member congregations can do house

meetings. House meetings are small groups of congregants who gather simply for the

purpose of learning what societal concerns are troubling people in our area. The issues

can be local, regional, or national. The only qualification is that they be actionable, that

something concrete can be done about them. Our “Do Not Stand Idly By” campaign

against gun violence is an issue that came from house meetings.

Here is what you can do-..The meetings will take place in October. So we are looking

for two kinds of help. First, we need people willing to lead house meetings. They will be

trained on Tuesday night, September 27

th

, here at St. Jerome. We will also be joined by

leaders from other member institutions.

We are also looking for parishioners willing to host an hour and fifteen minute house

meeting at your home. All you would have to do is invite some friends and offer simple

refreshments. You could pick the date, and we will provide a leader from the parish to

lead the exercise. I can guarantee you it will be an interesting evening!

There are sign-up sheets in the hallway for both hosts and group leaders. Please help

and sign up as soon as possible and watch for other fall events!
