The JustFaith graduation Mass will take place next Sunday, June 21 at the 11am Mass. Msgr. Priebe will present certificates to 14 JustFaith graduates who have just completed the program. JustFaith is a twenty-four week conversion process that highlights Catholic social teaching and scripture with a focus on domestic and global poverty and our call to be disciples of Jesus. We congratulate Gozelda Benoit, Isabel Carli, Armida Costa, Althea Delahoussaye, Patrick Irerih, Noreta Jose, Matt Muto, Alexandra Quiroz, Selene Quiroz, Carmen Purtell, Odera Udeoji, Lindel Vitacek, Marie Weekes and John Wiemken! Certificate of appreciation and gratitude will also be presented to four JustFaith graduates; Jacquelyn Carr, Rebecca Mendoza Muto, Juanita Rivera-Wiemken and Helene Wauthy who this year journeyed with the Just-Faith group as co-facilitators. Over the years, ninety (90) JustFaith graduates from St. Jerome have participated in the program. Congratulations to all the past and present graduates for their dedication and perseverance!

Catholics across the United States are asked to join in prayer and action during the annual Fortnight for Free-dom, June 21 to July 4, 2015. Our U.S. Catholic Confer-ence of Bishops has a deep interest in legislation and policies that impact the religious liberty of both individuals and institutions. In particular, the USCCB supports legis-lation that prevents government intrusion into religious doctrine, worship, governance or practice, as well as legislation that facilitates appropriate collaborations be-tween public and religious entities. We support the legal protection of conscience for individuals and faith-based organizations so that they are not forced or pressured to abandon their religious principles, including when they participate in government programs which serve the poor and vulnerable both here and abroad, educate children, and provide health care. The USCCB also carefully moni-tors legislation and policies dealing with the regulation of tax-exempt entities. In this context, the USCCB supports efforts to protect and promote incentives for charitable giving and public assistance to programs carried out by nonprofit church-related entities. To find informative arti-cles for reading and a guide to actions needed at present in behalf of religious freedom, please visit the website: www.usccb.org. Please see the flyer in today’s Sunday bulletin regarding threats to religious freedom today.

Transitional Kindergarten at St. Jerome School is a bridge between preschool and kindergarten for children with Fall birthdays. It gives our youngest children an opportunity to learn in an interactive, hands-on environ-ment that supports their development. Transitional Kindergarten is the first year of a two-year kindergarten experience for students born between September 2 and December 2. It is created to be an engaging learning environment that meets the social-emotional and cogni-tive needs of young children. It is “a gift of time” that allows students to develop at their own pace, setting them up for school success in kindergarten and beyond. What is the parent’s role in Transitional Kindergarten and why is it important? Communication between home and school is essential in helping children succeed. Transitional Kindergarten teachers meet with parents to discuss student progress and ways to support learning at home. Parents are encouraged to actively participate in their child’s learning both at home and in school. Transitional Kindergarten allows students entering Kindergarten an extended time to build their skills and abilities. This additional schooling is designed to help them succeed in kindergarten, become leaders in the classroom, and confidently navigate the school-day routine. We know that all children develop at their own pace and are pleased to offer Transitional Kindergarten at Saint Jerome to meet the needs of our younger children Please call the school for additional information (310) 670-1678. www.st-jeromeschool.org
