Dear Friends,

The pandemic is still raging, causing many to fear and even panic. But we know the Lord enters into our fears, creates peace and new ways of living. Although the obligation to participate in Mass has been lifted by our bishops, I hope you are keeping Sunday holy in the little Church of your homes. Sunday is still a day of faith, prayer, charity, rest, and family. The first day of the week is the Lord's and Jesus centers us through the practice of keeping the day holy.

We all want to live the truth of Jesus. Keeping the Lord's day is a primary truth of our faith relationship with the Lord. Our Lady of Guadalupe Church stands as a witness to Christ and the Church, truth, faith, family, and love.

Thank you for supporting us through this pandemic. Your prayers, your mystical support in fasting, solitude, works of love, and lastly financial contributions have kept us vibrant! For those who cannot attend Mass, we are streaming the Liturgy and archiving Sunday and weekday Masses at olg.cc.

Father Anthony Marshall will hold a mission on September 13-16 to inspire our faith and witness. This will hopefully initiate a new phase in our Church life as we transition into the Fall. PSR begins these days. We all need as adults to deepen our knowledge of the faith and love of the Lord. Please attend the mission physically if you are able or his preaching will be live-streamed and recorded.

If you need my ministry as a priest and pastor, please contact me. I have been visiting the sick when they are in need and allow me to enter their homes. Nursing facilities are still shut down.

If you seek to be Confirmed as an adult please contact Mr. Matt Griffith today!

My prayers,

The 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

July 26, 2020

Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Macedonia, Ohio

*Gathering Antiphon* (Cf. Ps. 68: 6-7)

God is in his holy place, God who unites those who dwell in his house.

He himself gives might and strength to his people.

O sing to God; make music to his name. Extol the One who rides on the clouds.

The LORD is his name; exult at his presence.

Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

world without end. Amen.

*Glory To God* RECITED by ALL

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory,

Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son. Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,

you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

The Liturgy of The Word

*1st Reading* 1 Kings 3: 5, 7-12

The LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream at night. God said, “Ask something of me and I will give it to you.” Solomon answered: “O LORD, my God, you have made me, your servant, king to succeed my father David; but I am a mere youth, not knowing at all how to act. I serve you in the midst of the people whom you have chosen, a people so vast that it cannot be numbered or counted. Give your servant, therefore, an understanding heart to judge your people and to distinguish right from wrong. For who is able to govern this vast people of yours?” The LORD was pleased that Solomon made this request. So God said to him: “Because you have asked for this—not for a long life for yourself, nor for riches, nor for the life of your enemies, but for understanding so that you may know what is right—I do as you requested. I give you a heart so wise and understanding that there has never been anyone like you up to now, and after you there will come no one to equal you.”

The word of the Lord. THANKS BE TO GOD.

*Psalm* Psalm 119: 57, 72, 76-77, 127-128, 129-130

Lord, I love your commands.

I have said, “O LORD, my portion is to obey your words.” The law from your mouth means more to me

than large quantities of silver and gold.

Let your merciful love console me by your promise to your servant.

Show me compassion, that I may live, for your law is my delight.

That is why I love your commands more than finest gold, why I rule my life by your precepts, and hate false ways.

Your decrees are wonderful indeed; therefore my soul obeys them.

The unfolding of your word gives light, and understanding to the simple.

Lord, I love your commands.

*2nd Reading* Romans 8: 28-30

Brothers and sisters: We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined he also called; and those he called he also justified; and those he justified he also glorified.

The word of the Lord. THANKS BE TO GOD.

*Gospel* Matthew 13: 44-52 OR 13: 44-46

[Jesus said to his disciples: “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.] Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind. When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away. Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. “Do you understand all these things?” They answered, “Yes.” And he replied, “Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.”

The Gospel of the Lord. PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

*Homily*

Reflection on The Word

*Profession of Faith* The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through Him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation, He came down from heaven,

(At the words that follow, up to and including “and became man,” all bow.)

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate, He suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and His kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Liturgy of The Eucharist

*Holy* RECITED by ALL

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

*Mystery of Faith* RECITED by ALL

We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your resurrection

until you come again.

*Amen* RECITED by ALL

Amen.

*Lamb of God* RECITED by ALL

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

*Communion Antiphon* (Ps. 103:2)

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and never forget all his benefits.

*Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all within me, his holy name.

*It is the LORD who forgives all your sins, who heals every one of your ills,

who redeems your life from the grave, who crowns you with mercy and compassion,

who fills your life with good things, renewing your youth like an eagle’s.

*The LORD does just deeds, gives full justice to all who are oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses,

and his deeds to the children of Israel.

*The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and rich in mercy.

He will not always find fault; nor persist in his anger forever. He does not treat us according to our sins,

nor repay us according to our faults.

*For as the heavens are high above the earth, so strong his mercy for those who fear him.

As far as the east is from the west, so far from us does he remove our transgressions.

*Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

world without end. Amen.

(Psalm 103 verses: 1, 3-5, 6-7, 8-10, 11-12)

Reflection for July 26, 2020 1 Kings 3:5, 7-12 Romans 8:28-30

Matthew 13:44-52 This week’s readings are unique in the sense that they seem to be unrelated. Solomon hears God speaking to him in a dream in the first reading. God offers him anything he wants as a gift. Solomon asks for the gift of wisdom so he can lead God’s people. This pleases God and He makes him the wisest man ever to live on earth. Saint Paul in the book of Romans writes about all of us being destined to do the will of God and to reflect His image to all we encounter. The Gospel is a continuation of last week’s Gospel. Jesus continues his teaching of the Kingdom of Heaven. He provides three parables. The first two are similar in depicting the Kingdom as more precious and valuable than any of our possessions. Only the person willing to shed all of their earthly possessions will be able to obtain it. The third parable describes the kingdom as a fish net thrown into the sea where it catches every type of fish. The net is God’s invitation or word. It goes out and touches the entire world. His invitation is not discriminant; it is for all peoples of every nation and language. Everyone is called to be part of the Kingdom of Heaven. Saint Paul stated in the second reading that everyone is destined to be with God in Heaven. All who are willing to follow God’s loving ways will enter the kingdom. Similar to last week’s Gospel, there is a day of reckoning where the righteous will be separated and taken into Heaven and the wicked will be thrown in the everlasting fire. Let us pray. Heavenly Father, grant us the wisdom and courage to follow your ways. Give us clarity of mind to make good choices in life so that we stay close to You and not be led astray. Please help all those who have lost their way, may not believe in you anymore or have turned their backs to you. Help them to realize You still love them and want them to be close to You in the Kingdom. Amen.

Witten by Spiritual Life Committee, Donald Burke

Please remember our priests and seminarians in your prayers. Continue to pray for an increase of vocations to

The dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass remains in effect. The bishops of Ohio continue to be cautious and concerned for those who are most at risk -- the elderly and those with serious health issues. We strongly urge those who are most vulnerable to stay at home and ask that those who are not feeling well to refrain from coming to church. We thank you for your patience, understanding and cooperation.

Presented by Dr. Bill Hobbs, EdD and Dr. Jessica Wrobleski. In the wake of the health and economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, how do Catholic educators return to the “new normal”? Based on our Chris-tian perspective of the Paschal Mystery and practical appli-cations of resilience skills, we will gather, gain perspective and create resources for ourselves as educators and for our students and school communities. Jesuit Retreat Center is offering the opportunity for a limited number of participants to spend seven nights for personal prayer and reflection. In the midst of the challenging realities of our time, we invite you to come away for a while and find rest at this “place of peace.” This will be a non-directed retreat, allowing participants to create their own use of time and space at Jesuit Retreat Center. Cost: $650 August Pre-Baptism Class for Parents. Monday, August 10 from 7:00pm - 8:00pm. This class is for parents seeking to have their infants baptized into the Catholic faith. Cost per couple: $20 August Morning Prayer for Women. Monday, August 17 from 9:30am - 11:00am. Women from all walks of life are invited to pray together and learn more about the beauty of prayer. Monday, August 17 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm. “For the first time, the incredible story of Mary Magdalene is told through her own eyes.” – IMDB. Join us as we view and discuss the film, starring Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix. Cost: Free Will Offering. Praying Your Type: An Exploration of Personality Type and Spirituality. Friday, August 21, 7:00pm - Sunday, Au-gust 23, 11:00am. Presented by Dr. Bill Hobbs, EdD. Through presentation and interactive conversation, as well as personal and communal prayer time and experiences, we will explore the intersection between personality, prayer, and spirituality. Participants will be exposed to four major prayer styles throughout the course of the weekend and have the chance to explore methods and practices of pray-er that might best suit their personality and inform their jour-ney of faith. Cost: Visit www.jesuitretreatcenter.org for list of registration options.

Marian Corner

In the light of Mary, the Church sees in the face of women the reflection of a

beauty which mirrors the loftiest sentiments of which the human heart is

capable: the self-offering totality of love; the strength that is capable of

bearing the greatest sorrows; limitless fidelity and tireless devotion to work;

the ability to combine penetrating intuition with words of support and encouragement. St. John Paul II

(Redemptoris Mater) Blessed Mary, Full of Grace,

pray for us.
