THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT: WE CAN ALWAYS DO TO RECEIVE CHRIST!

Today's Gospel calls us to enter a very deep reflection on what we can do to also respond to the Baptist´s calls. First is the verbal response we can give, which can also be like when we recite the Creed or Our Father or when we say Yes to what is asked of us. From there, it must take us to realize an action, what we do to give life to what we profess. Many times, because we are people with less means, we do not have an exuberant bank account, we believe that we cannot give. Maybe also because we have not had a formal education, we think we can contribute. Well, we can do a lot! Look at what the Lord Jesus did with the disciples, look at what God did as many Old Testament characters who thought they could not speak, could not lead or walk the path laid by him. When they responded generously, the Lord was able to work in them and through them for the good of all humanity. The Lord wants us to respond freely, but at the same time he asks us to give of who we are and what we have. Who cannot give of his time? Who cannot give a word of encouragement? Who cannot walk with someone who needs accompaniment or feels alone? Who does not have a bit of food that they can share? When we act like this, it is then when we can truly respond to what the Lord asks of us. Another thought that occurred to me was what if we were a little more like the same John the Baptist and many of our biblical mentors, living a simpler life, being more pleased with what we have and not letting ourselves be carried away by this society that always seeks the newest things and having more and more. Until when we will let ourselves go? We already are something that the world cannot buy, we are God’s creation. We have unique gifts as individuals and greater in our unity. Perhaps what we can do this time of Advent is to be satisfied with ourselves, knowing that the Lord is pleased to be born in a simple heart like ours.

TERCER DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO:

¡SIEMPRE PODEMOS HACER PARA RECIBIR A CRISTO!

La lectura del evangelio de hoy nos llama a entrar en una reflexión muy profunda en la interrogación

que le hacen a Juan: ¿qué podemos hacer? Primero está la respuesta verbal que podemos dar, que también puede ser cuando recitamos el Credo o el Padre Nuestro o cuando decimos que Sí a lo que se nos pide. De ahí tiene que pasar a la acción, ¿qué hacemos para dar vida a lo que profesamos? Muchas veces porque somos personas con menos medios, no tenemos una cuenta bancaria exuberante, creemos que no podemos dar. Quizás también porque no hemos tenido una educación formal, pensamos que podemos aportar nada. ¡Pues es mucho lo que podemos hacer!

Mira lo que el Señor Jesús hizo con los discípulos, mira lo que Dios hizo como muchos personajes del antiguo testamento que se pensaban incapaces de hablar, de liderar, de caminar por el sendero trazado por él. Todos cuando respondían generosamente, el Señor pudo obrar en ellos y a través de ellos por el bien de toda la humanidad. El Señor quiere que respondamos libremente, pero al mismo tiempo nos pide que demos de los que somos y lo que tenemos. ¿Quién no puede dar de su tiempo? ¿Quién no puede dar una palabra de ánimo? ¿Quién no puede dar un paso al lado de alguien que necesita acompañamiento o se siente solo? ¿Quién no tiene un poco de comida que puede compartir, cuando obramos así, es cuando verdaderamente respondemos a lo que nos pide el Señor? Otro pensamiento que se me ocurría era que fuéramos un poco más como el mismo Juan el Bautista y muchos de nuestros mentores bíblicos, viviendo una vida más sencilla, estar más complacidos con lo que tenemos y no dejarnos llevar por está sociedad que siempre busca lo más nuevo y el tener más y más. ¿Hasta cuándo? Somos ya algo que el mundo no puede comprar, somos criaturas del Señor. Poseemos unos dones únicos y al mismo tiempo que nos unen. Quizás lo que podemos hacer este tiempo de Adviento es estar conformes con nosotros mismos, sabiendo que el Señor se complace nacer en un corazón sencillo como el nuestro.

Pope at Mass: ‘prepare for Christmas with the courage of faith’

Reflecting on the Gospel reading of the day that tells the story of a paralyzed man healed by Jesus, the Pope said faith gives us courage and shows us the way to touch the heart of the Lord. He noted how, in the parable, the Lord “saw the faith” of those who brought the man and set him in His presence. “It took courage, “he said, to go up on the roof and lower him on the stretcher through the tiles…. “Those people had faith: “They knew that if the sick man was put in front of Jesus, he would be healed”.

Celebrate Christmas with faith. The Pope also recalled other episodes in which Jesus expressed admiration for people’s faith. Like in the case of the centurion who asked for the healing of his servant, of the Syrophoenician woman who interceded for her daughter who was possessed by the devil, and of the woman afflicted with hemorrhages who was healed after having touched the hem of Jesus’ cloak. “Jesus, the Pope said, reproaches people of little faith”, like Peter who doubts, but he said; “with faith everything is possible”. In this second week of Advent, Pope Francis continued, “we ask for the grace to prepare ourselves with faith to celebrate Christmas”. He noted that Christmas is often marked in a worldly or pagan fashion but reiterating the Lord’s request that we do so with faith, the Pope said, “it's not easy to keep the faith, it's not easy to defend the faith… it's not easy!”

Act of faith. Pope Francis wrapped up his reflection commenting on the episode narrated in the Gospel of John in which a boy who was blind is healed: “It will do us good today, and also tomorrow, during the week, to take chapter 9 of the Gospel of John and read this beautiful story of the boy who was blind from birth”. “From the bottom of our hearts” he concluded “utter an act of faith and say: I believe Lord. Help me in my faith. Defend my faith from worldliness, from superstitions, from all that is not faith. Keep it from being reduced to theory, be it theological or moral… Faith in You, Lord”.

The diocesan Marriage Preparation or “Pre-Cana” classes are presented in English, Spanish, Creole, Polish and Italian. The Diocese of Brooklyn have specialized Pre-Cana for Interfaith/Interchurch couples, for couples who are re-marrying and for couples who are convalidating their civil unions. HOLY SACRAMENTS Infant Baptism Birth to 6 yrs.

Infant baptisms are celebrated on the first Sunday of every month. Baptism preparation class for parents and Godparents are held on the Tuesday prior to the Baptism Sunday. Parent(s) or Godparent(s), please bring an original birth certificate of the child to the main office where you can begin the process of registration for this beautiful sacrament.

Children’s Faith Formation ages 7 yrs. to 15 yrs. (Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation) Our Children’s Faith Formation program provides preparation of the Holy Sacraments for children. The program follows Diocesan Guidelines for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children. The hours for children's faith formation classes are Sunday, 9:30 A.M. -1:00 P.M.

Pentecost Confirmation 16 yrs. and older Are you baptized and received First Holy Communion but have not completed the Sacrament of Confirmation and you are over the age of 16? Our Confirmation only program begins in January in preparation for Pentecost Confirmation typically at the end of May or beginning of June.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) (Becoming a Catholic)

Are you baptized? Have you received First Holy Communion? Are you Confirmed? Adults and youth at least 16 yrs. of age seeking full initiation into the Catholic Church are invited to enter into a process of faith formation. RCIA classes are all year round.

LOS SACRAMENTOS Bautismo para bebes nacimiento a 6 años

Los bautismos para bebes se celebran el primer domingo de cada mes. La clase de preparación del bautismo para los padres y padrinos es el martes antes del domingo del bautismo. Padres o Padrinos, traiga el certificado de nacimiento original del niño a la oficina principal donde pueden comenzar el proceso de inscripción para este hermoso sacramento.

Formación de Fe para Niños 7 años hasta 15 años (Bautismo, Primera Comunión, Confirmación) El programa de formación de fe para nuestros niños se prepara los niños para sus Sacramentos. El programa sigue las Directrices Diocesanas para el Rito de Iniciación Cristiana de los Niños. Las horas para las clases son domingo, 9:30 A.M. -1:00 P.M.

Confirmación de Pentecostés 16 años y adelante ¿Se ha bautizado y recibido la Primera Comunión pero no ha completado el Sacramento de la Confirmación y tiene más de 16 años de edad? Nuestro programa de Confirmación solo comienza en enero en preparación para la Confirmación de Pentecostés típicamente en mayo o junio.

Sacramento de los enfermos Llame a (718) 455-6864 para hacer arreglos para que el enfermo reciba la Santa Comunión o la Unción de los Enfermos en su casa.

Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos: R.I.C.A. (Convertirse Católico)

¿Está bautizado? ¿Has recibido la Primera Comunión? ¿Está Confirmado? Se invita a los adultos y jóvenes 16 años y adelante, que buscan la iniciación completa en la Iglesia Católica para entrar en un proceso de formación de fe. Las clases de R.I.C.A. son todo el año.

Sacramento del Matrimonio La Diócesis de Brooklyn, a través de la Oficina de Formación de Fe, ofrece el Programa de Pre-Cana o Preparación Matrimonial. Este programa ha tomado su nombre del pasaje del evangelio en el que Jesús asiste a la celebración de las Bodas de Caná. Al convertir el agua en vino, Jesús nos enseña que toda boda tiene dos elementos: el de celebración y el de transformación.
