St. John the Baptist School

ANNUAL REPORT

2018-19

From the Principal Dear Friends and Supporters of St. John the Baptist School:

It is a great moment in Catholic education. For two years in a row, the Diocese of Green Bay has seen positive enrollment growth,

and nationally a parent’s right to choose their child’s education is being honored. The faith of our young families is vibrant, and at a

time when society seems to be losing its family values, many are seeing the importance of a school dedicated to integrating faith and

moral education. St. John the Baptist School is a leader in this change and we are poised to remain an example of an outstanding

Catholic school. Our membership in GRACE, Green Bay Area Catholic Education, helps us to continue to focus on growth,

academic rigor, and building this excellent school for our children.

This year our school community has seen some outstanding success in our three areas of focus: Faith, Academics, Family.

Through this year’s theme of Servant

Leadership, students donated 730 hours

to the local community.

Students entered into the Liturgical

seasons through many prayer experi-

ences.

Students attend weekly Mass on

Wednesdays at 8:30. Many parents join

us in prayer.

We increased the number of students

who met their growth goals on their

standardized assessments by over 10%

in both math and reading, reaching a 5-

year high.

96% of K-5 students finished reading at

or above grade level. 60% of that group

is reading above grade level.

Each grade level hosted a “Parent

Day,” a day where parents join us for

Mass, a social time, and shadow their

students for morning instruction and

lunchtime.

Family groups, a K-8 faith experience,

was completed for a second year.

Q & A with Alexis Lemke

Alexis Lemke joined St. John the Baptist School as a seventh

grader this year. This Spring she was baptized in the presence

of her classmates and her parents joined the Catholic Church.

This is their story:

What made you decide to be baptized?

I decided to get baptized to become a part of the church, the

Faith and be able to participate in everything. I said to myself

how cool would it be to be baptized in front of my family,

friends, and of all my new friends who changed my life for the

better.

What has been the biggest blessing of your time at SJB?

The biggest blessing from my time so far at SJB is meeting all

the teachers that have supported me through my whole faith

journey. Also all my new friends who are just great and I fit in

with.

What has been the biggest surprise from your time at SJB?

The biggest surprise was how welcoming everyone is, I just

came to a new school and immediately became friends with

everyone. I was so surprised how much Mrs. Fritsh was able to

teach me in my faith so quickly.

What is your favorite memory as a student at SJB?

My favorite memory as a SJB student was my first day of school

there. I loved how I immediately made friends. I also loved our

trip to Camp Tekawitha. I had tons of fun bonding with all of my

classmates.

Q&A with Alexis’ Parents: Marc and Heidi

Tell us your story about coming to St. John the Baptist School.

It was 2 weeks before the school year and Alexis was about to start public school. She was having a hard time

about the beginning of school because she did not feel like she fit in anywhere with anyone. We reached out

to our close friends Bill & Sarah Wulf and another close friend whose child was at SJB at the time. We met

with Mr. Mulloy and never looked back.

What has been the biggest blessing since joining the school?

Our biggest blessing has been not only Alexis finding herself again, but the friends, the faith, and the teachers

who are so open to helping us along our journey. Literally everyone has been welcoming and wanting to

make this an excellent experience for our entire family. Alexis has changed so much with confidence in her-

self and loves her faith. Our family is amazed at the way we have seen her grow and so happy!

Tell us about how you were impacted by the different ministries in the church.

My husband Marc and I both went to the Welcome Retreat weekends and we both knew instantly that this

was our “home.” It is so great to become part of a Church that is so welcoming and wanting to see us grow in

our Faith.

Why did you decide to enter the Catholic church?

We entered the Catholic Church after we went through RCIA and learned so much about the “why’s” of the

Church. It just made so much sense to us and we were all so excited to be able to share that. Our lives have

been forever changed by Alexis starting at St. John the Baptist School, and it is changing her world and ours.

We just cannot tell people enough…give Saint John’s a chance…you will not regret it!

Our daughter has grown in her confidence and her spirituality thanks to everyone at St. John’s. Thank you to

Principal Mulloy, Mrs. Hollihan in the office, the teachers, our Priests and everyone in the community. It has

made the lives of my husband and I so much better knowing our daughter loves where she is at.
