Nativity of Saint John the Baptist - June 24, 2018 “Behold, one is coming after me; I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.” —Acts 13:25
Dear parishioners, I am very happy when people are amazed at how St. James is very well set as a temporary Church while our main Church is being renovated. So far I have heard nobody complaining about St. James, but people praising how nice it all came together. By the way, that is how I see St. James, too. Some of our old parishioners, who attended Mass at St. James a long time ago, appreciate bringing back the “old souvenir”. Those who were baptized here appreciate it also, because now, fully aware of their faith, they can attend Mass where they were baptized. One person told me that St. James looks so much better as a Church than our main one. Another parishioner told me after a morning Mass that the sound system is better than the one in the main Church. I agree to both statements, with the caveat that when our main Church is finished, it would be much better and more comfortable than St. James is now. For example, in St. James, we have no kneelers, some have to stand for Consecration, while othersare sitting or kneeling on the floor. One Confessional place is a huge empty room with all kinds of dirt on the wall and the floor due to the table and chairs that were stored there. In this room also, there is no air conditioning yet; that means as the heat increases, that room will be very uncomfortable. The other Confessional is St. Catherine room and is used also as the Sacristy. I would like to thank so much, a few people who were highly involved in preparing St. James Hall into what it is now. Jay BARRY: He was asked to look over for making St. James as temporary Church and transferring all the necessities needed in place. Jay worked so hard day and night. He spent so much time in this place, trying to organize everything. He conducted so many meetings, so that nothing was left behind. It is through his looking ahead that all went fine. There was nothing he didn't prepare before the move. Thank you so much, Jay, for your willingness to take the challenge and make things done. Thank you for being a good steward by giving of your time, talent and treasure. JoAnn MENDENHALL: She does so much here at St. John’s, and recently replaced Inga, who retired as the head of Eucharistic Ministry. With the move to Saint James, JoAnn worked very hard so that the liturgy may flow smoothly. Like Jay Barry, she spent so many hours trying to see what is appropriate for the liturgy. How to install chairs, the altar, organizing the Eucharistic ministers, where to put bread and wine for Consecration, and so many other needed things. Thank you, JoAnn, for your time, talent and treasure that you share with us. Linda GOSPODNETICH: We are blessed to have Linda as our Business Manager. She over-sees the whole situation in the parish and calls people or companies that are appropriate to do the job. It is a blessing for St. John that she is knowledgeable in building in California and worked on homes for many years. The stage (or sanctuary) of St. James was painted in black and the carpet was very dusty, torn, and very old. Some things needed to be done before the move, and she did it. The sound system we had in St. James was broken; she made many phone calls so that the system may be replaced on time. I used the microphone the first weekend Mass after moving to St. James, everybody knew that something was wrong. Thanks be to God now it is OK thanks be to Linda. There were so many other things that needed to be done or being done, even now, that she keeps working on, with the help of our beloved parishioners, especially Knights of Columbus members Peter MENDENHALL (who made the Tabernacle black platform and various wood pieces) and David MRAZ who, with his helpers, tore out the old carpet, hung the Stations of the Cross, etc., Jack WILSON who hung our religious pictures around the St. James walls, as well as Bob CULLEN who donated his time to patch and paint the Sanctuary many, many times to cover the black paint. Last but not least, Linda’s brother, John GOSPODNETICH: The Eucharist is the center and summit of our faith. The Tabernacle needs to be in the Sanctuary and secured. John invented a way to
secure the Tabernacle so well that it amazed me. The Sanctuary would not be complete without the Tabernacle. John and his family do so much in the matter of decoration (Altar Society) and doing the impossible. Dear parishioners, we are very blessed with all of you and what you do for this parish family. There were so many others who were involved by moving things from the main Church, people who placed the furniture, those who clean, thank you all for being a living member of the Body of Christ here at St. John’s. God bless, Father Bernardin MUGABO

St. Vincent de Paul: Sacramento summers br ing hot days which sometimes makes it uncomfortable for both our SVDP volunteers and our clients. But these hot days also bless us with an abundance of donated fresh fruits and vegetables from our vendors that we can distribute to our clients. Last Sunday, Carmichael Farmers Market vendors donated 32 crates of these fresh fruits and vegetables. Patronizing these farmers on Sundays is a good way to indirectly support our SVDP. The same holds true for the Farmers Wife stand on Winding Way and Hackberry. This week we are asking for cereal, top ramen, and spaghetti sauce—sound familiar? Thank you and enjoy your summer.
