LOVE ONE ANOTHER In the Gospel for the Sixth Sunday of Easter we are met with an extraordinary challenge: Jesus commands us to “love one another as I love you” (John 15:12). The let-ter from John echoes this command. Of course, we are to love those in our family, those we work with, those we like. But the scriptures make clear that we are also to love those we never notice, those we purposely avoid, and even those we are tempted to despise. In this Sunday’s selection from the Acts of the Apos-tles Peter shows us how far God’s love extends, and how far our love should extend in response. Peter realizes that God no longer “shows partiality” to the Jews, sharing di-vine love exclusively with them. Christ has revealed that God’s love extends to all people, and so should ours.

Blessing, Father George

50th GOLDEN WEDDING JUBILEE MASS

Couples celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary anytime during 2018 are

invited to attend the Golden Wedding Jubilee Mass with Cardinal Dolan at

St. Patrick’s Cathedral on

Sunday, June 3rd at 2:15 pm.

Pre-registration is required. Please contact the rectory at 845-679-7696 to register or

email [email protected]. The closing date to register for the Mass is

Monday, May 14, 2018.

May is Saint John’s month to staff the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen at Christ Lutheran Church

in Woodstock. Soup, bread, beverages and des-sert are served. Soup is prepared by area restaurants and bread is donated by local establishments. We are very fortunate that the DBSK now has “permanent volunteers: on Mondays (thanks to John Mocarski and

his daughter) and Wednesdays. So, barring any unforeseen changes or emergencies, we are actually only looking for Friday volunteers from 3:30-6:15 pm.

Volunteers are needed to do the following: 1. Pick up the soup from area restaurants and deliver it to the

Christ Lutheran Church by 3:45. 2. 2 adults (and 1 CCD student) are needed to set up, serve

and cleanup. (Only 1 CCD student per shift…and only with parental permission, please.)

3. We can also use substitutes, because emergencies do happen. There will be a spot for you to sign up if you’d like to be called as a substitute throughout the year.

If you have any questions, please call Barbara Runz at 973-222-5489. This is actually a very enjoyable and rewarding way to spend an afternoon. Your generosity will be appreciated by all you serve!

BABY BOTTLES have been placed in the church/chapel lobby. Please help support the Good Counsel Homes as they provide supportive residential care and community-based ser-vices for homeless, expectant, new mothers and their children in the content of the Catholic social tradition. Please give gener-ously. For more info, go to http://www.goodcounselhomes.org.

Volunteers are needed for an act of kindness.

A parish member had surgery on 4/27 and could use some meals that they can easily

freeze, defrost and bake. Call the rectory for more info at 845-679-7696.
