VOICE 4 GIRLS SUMMER INTERNSHIP CAMP
Voice 4 Girls works with adolescent girls from low-income communities to build their
confidence, introduce important and relevant life skills, and engage their parents in order to
increase their opportunities and decision-making powers. The NGO was started in 2012 by Ms.
Anusha Bharadwaj, Executive Director at Voice 4 Girls. Though VOICE’s chief beneficiaries
are adolescent girls, the organization recognized the pressing need to involve boys in discussions
pertaining to gender and inequalities that are so deeply rooted in the Indian psyche.
VOICE conducts activity-based camps in government and low-cost private schools where girls
and boys acquire critical knowledge, spoken English and life skills. VOICE Camps are
conducted by motivated college students who are hired and trained intensively to impart the
curriculum. The NGO organises camps separately for boys and girls namely “Her Voice” for
girls and “Boys 4 Voice” for boys.
VOICE offers an innovative training to college students who act as counselors to maximize their
teaching potential and create positive learning environment in classroom. Field Coordinators
work closely with Counselors and VOICE staff to accomplish the overall mission of the
programme by attending to the safety and well-being and of the participants. They are incharge
of logistics and prepare reports namely Quality Control Report, Camper Data and Impact
Assessment Sheets. Our Students have undergone training at Hyderabad Archdiocese Social
Service Society, Secunderabad. They were provided with books namely (1).Counselors self
study guide (2). Counselors hand book (3). Field Coordinators book (4). Campers Book (5).
Sakhi handbook. Our Students were also informed about the teaching methodology, Tools and
Techniques to be used namely (1). Individual, pair, group work (2).Puzzles, quizzes, games
(3).Skits and role play (4) Interviewing and discussions (5).Presentations (6). Dance and songs
(7). Case studies and stories (8). Ice-breakers and energizers (9). Class room management
techniques such as Bumpity Bump Bump, 1-2-3 Eyes on me, Whistle and Freeze. After the
training, our students were sent as Field Coordinators and counselors to different Telangana
Social Welfare Residential Education Institution Society (TSWREIS) residential schools in
villages of Telangana State.

Voice 4 Girls Parichay Camp and Sakhi Peer Leadership Program
The programme, “Her Voice” is implemented in three phases namely Her Voice Parichay, Disha,
and Sakhi Peer Leadership programme. Parichay and Disha seek to familiarize campers with
critical topics related to health, safety, self-awareness and future planning, while Sakhi Peer
Leadership Programme is the last level of flagship, where girls will be trained as leaders and
learn about community leadership, communication, team building, taking good risks, resilience
and ethical leadership. Every school would have a Sakhi manager and the other campers would
be Sakhi leaders. Elections will be conducted for the Sakhi Manager. After the camp, Sakhi
Manager and Sakhi Leaders would ensure that they would go back to their schools and help their
peers and conduct mentoring sessions. This way, Voice tries to reach out to every girl who is in
need.
