Activities for 2009 – 2010

1. Events hosted by the Department :

1. On 13-6-09 Entrance Exam was conducted for B.com Hons, where 69

students had appeared for the Exam & 40 where selected on merit basis.

2. On 16-6-09 An Essay writing Competition was conducted on the topic

“Climate change & its Humanitarian consequences”.

3. From 1st to 4th July 2009 Orientation was conducted for B.Com I year

students in two batches

4. From 8th to 11th July 2009 Workshop on New Curriculum in Commerce

Courses was conducted in Collaboration with the Dept. of Commerce,

Osmania University where in 169 Faculty member from 40 different

colleges have attended. The Faculty was given insight on the subjects

1. Accounting Package in Tally

2. Taxation

3. Business Statistics &

4. Banking & insurance.

The Workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Achalapathy & Prof Akbar Ali

Khan. It was concluded by Prof.Shankariah

5. On 19 -8-09 Fresher's Party was hosted by 2nd & 3rd year students for

welcoming the 1st years at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Auditorium.

6. Various cultural competitions were conducted by the dept of Commerce from

August 2009.

7. Workshop on Yoga and Meditation was conducted on 5th Oct.2009 for faculty and

students.

6. An Orientation programme was conducted for I yr students on 23rd Oct.

2009 by Sriram Athri follower of swami Sukhabodhananda.

7. A seminar on Career Opportunities- virtual / conventional class room

delivery, web based education, how to crack online CAT and verbal and

quantum sessions by Career Launcher was conducted on 19th Nov. 2009

for III yr students.

8. A seminar on Career Opportunities- Math’s made easy by CAREER

LAUNCHER was conducted on 20th Nov. 2009 for II yr students

9. Dept. has conducted General Quiz on 12th and 13th Nov. 2009.

Preliminary round was conducted on 12th Nov. 65 teams participated

from which 6 teams were selected for final round which was on 13th Nov.

2009.

2. Extension Activities

1. On 5-6-09 Students Participated in the World Environment Day rally,

conducted by Red Cross society, Hyderabad.

2. From 27th to 31st July 2009 Youth Red Cross Training Cum Study Camp

was conducted for YRC Volunteers & Programme officers at

Thirunelveli, Mrs. Suguna Sheeela has participated in the camp along

with the following students.

3. On 15-8-09 Little Sisters of the Poor & Home for the aged of Bhoiguda,

secunderabad celebrated a fest, where in all our faculty & students

visited. The objective of the fest was to generate funds for the old people

by purchasing various articles made by them.

3. The NSS wing has conducted a special camp between 19th and 25th Sept. 2009

at Kompally village , Keesar Mandal, RR Dist. Where in many of the B. Com

students from all the years participated. The objective of the camp was to adopt

a village and help the villagers in creating awareness about social, ethical,

religion, health and educational issues.

4. Faculty from various colleges visited our Commerce Lab and

appreciated. Colleges which visited are Kasturba Gandhi Degree & PG

college, St.Mary’s Degree college, Bhavans New science college, St

Mary’s Centenary degree college, Loyola Academy, St Paul’s Degree

college,Villa Marie degree college, Mahboob college, Bharat degree

college, shadan degree college, Stanley degree & Pg College, Noble

degree college. Visiting faculty from SBHSTC also appreciated

commerce lab.

5. Essay writing competition was conducted on 25th Sept. 2009 on the topic

‘Blood Donation is the gift of Life’ where in Jasmeet Kour of B. Com I

‘D’ has won I prize.

6. On 1st Oct. 2009 Red Cross Society distributed prizes for the winners of

essay writing competition.

7. On 7th Oct. 2009 a packaging programme was conducted for flood

affected people of Kurnool Dist. This was attended by YRC coordinator

Mrs. Suguna Sheela along with students Khader of B.com III’A’ and Kasim

of II ‘H’.

3. Faculty Achievement

1. Mrs. Geetanjali attended Refresher Course in commerce conducted by UGC-

Academic Staff College at Osmania University from 15th June to 4th July

2009and she was awarded with ‘A’ Grade

2. On 25-6-09 ADP conducted a lecture at ITC Kakatiya on the Occasion of

their Tenth Anniversary. On the topic Current Economic Environment for

Business.Dr. Shyamlal Roy highlighted on Macro Economic Environment.

He differentiated between slow down & Recession in an Economy. This

Seminar was attended by Mrs. Suguna Sheela.

3. Mrs. Vinaya Sheela, Mrs. Savitri and Mr. Satyanarayana have attended a

National Seminar on Corporate Reporting and Ethical Practices Conducted

by Dept. of Commerce, Osmania University on 3oth June, 2009

4. Mr. Satyanarayana Rao attended a Workshop on Entrepreneurship

development conducted by National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) at

Aurora Business School from 19th to 23rd Oct. 2009.

5. Mrs. Savitri has attended a two day training programme from 5th to 6th Nov.

2009 on Quantitative Techniques conducted for P. G. commerce faculty by

Dept. of Commerce, Osmania University on the topics Identification of

Research Problem, Hypothesis Formulation, Non-Parametric Tests, Linear

Programming, Data Collection, Questionnaire Designing, Report Writing &

articles writing Techniques, Hypothesis Testing and Games Theory. The

speakers included Prof. H. Venkateshwarlu, Prof. Krishna Reddy, Prof. S.F.

Chandrashekar, Prof Achalapati and Prof Prashanta Atma.

6. Mr. Thirumala Rao has attended a one day on 7th Nov. 2009 training

programme on Information Technology and E-Commerce at Osmania

University.

7. Mrs. Vinaya Sheela, Mrs. Savitri and Mr. Thirumala Rao have attended a

State level faculty programme on “CARR” (Case Study Article Writing ,

Research tools and Research methodology) Conducted by Vignana Bharati

Institute of Technology on 13th and 14th Nov. 2009

8. Mrs. Vinaya Sheela, Mrs. Savitri and Mr. Satyanarayana have attended an

International Seminar on “Chilling Effects of Climate Change on Life and

Living” It was conducted by Kasturba Gandhi Degree & P.G. College for

Women on Economic Committee on 19th and 20th Nov. 2009

9. All the Faculty of the Dept. have attended Workshop on New Curriculum in

Commerce Courses Conducted by the Dept. of Commerce, Osmania

University in Collaboration with the Dept. of Commerce St. Joseph’s Degree

and P. G. College From 8th to 11th July 2009.

10. International Institute for Insurance & Finance conducted Seminar on

Insurance Awareness & Adoption as a career. Mr.Shakti Singh attended this

seminar on 21st Feb 2010.

11. Mrs. Vinaya Sheela & Mrs. Savithri attended International Conference on International Trade & Commerce organized by Department. of Commerce Osmania University on March 5th ,6th & 7th 2010 sponsored by ICSSR . 4. Outstanding Student Achievers

1. Ajith Golecha of B.Com II ‘D’ has won II prize in Eureka Competition

organized in “Entrepreneur sans Frontiers”- A national event conducted

by Aurora Business School on 10th Sept 2009.

2. Akshay of B. Com I ‘B’ participated at St. Francis College for women,

Begumpet for the event ‘Constellation-09’ held on 29th Aug. 2009.

3. Inter Collegiate Cultural Competition was held at Tagore Auditorium

Osmania University Campus between 10th to 13th November 2009 ,

following students won prizes in various Events.

4. Akshay Kumar of I ’B’ participated in the event ‘Prerna-‘09’ held at St.

Mary’s Degree College, Yousufguda on 20th and 21st Nov. 2009 and won

II prize in painting competition.

5. Jasmeet Kour of B. Com I ‘D’ has won I prize in Essay writing

competition conducted on 25th Sept. 2009 on the topic ‘Blood Donation

is the gift of Life’.

6. On 4th Nov. 2009 B. Com III Yr students have won I prize consequently

for 3 yrs at Inter Collegiate Group Singing Competition Conducted by

Osmania University. They also represented Osmania University at South

India Inter University Competitions held at Mysore from 24th to 27th

Nov. 2009.

7. Mohd. Mustafa of B.Com III yr has won gold medal at Inland Skating

Hockey Dist. Level Competitions and secured 4th place at state level

competitions.

8. Mohd. Mustafa of B.Com III yr has won gold medal at Roller Skating

Dist. Level Competitions and secured 3rd place at state level competitions

9. The college choir has won first prize in Carol Singing Inter collegiate

competition conducted on 12-12-2009 by Little Flower School

10. Jitesh Agarwal of B.Com Computers Final Year was awarded Citizens

Council Andhra Pradesh Youth Award 2010 on 17th January 2010.

5. Placement Record

a. On 21-8-09 Mrs. Savitri along with Mrs.Priya & Mr. Vidyasagar

visited Amazon Company regarding Placements for our students.

b. On 24-8-09 a pre-placement presentation was presented by

Amazon Company for part time jobs and 2 final year Students

were selected.

c. A pre placement talk was conducted by Mr. David of Delloitte E-

boss on 15th September 2009.

d. Delloitte E-Boss has conducted online test for placement enrolled

students of B. Com III yr on 6th Oct. 2009

e. A pre placement talk was conducted by Delloite on taxation. First

round test was completed & selected students were asked to attend

for interview on 30th Oct.09

f. On 3rd Nov. 2009 II and III round interview was conducted for

selected students by Delloitte.

g. A seminar on career launcher was conducted for III yr placement

enrolled students on 24th Sept. 2009.

h. presentation was given by Amazon representatives on 20th Nov.

2009 on their second visit to the campus. Written test, navigation

test and one – one interview was conducted and 6 students III yr

students were selected for part time jobs.

Amazon.com is basically an online shopping site. They have visited the

campus twice, once for the Customer support and then for the

technical/seller support.
