May God protect our members who serve in the armed forces and return them safely to their families: ARMY: Staff Sgt. Jennifer (Clough) Korfmacher, COAST GUARD: Ensign Allison Rychtanek, AIR FORCE: Major Victoria L. Cramer

Lord, Hear our Prayer. Please notify the Parish office if a parishioner is seriously ill or becomes unable to attend Mass for an extended period of time.

TREASURES from our TRADITION

O St. Laurence, generous servant of the Church and deacon of God’s people, most loving patron of our parish, inspire our hearts with your total and courageous love for Christ. Encourage us, and intercede that we too give away our lives, little by little, toward the advancement of the Church’s mission and the spiritual health of our parish. Help us not to fear the cost of discipleship, but focus with faith on the glorious effects of your grace in our lives. St. Laurence, pray for us!

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to they protection, implored they help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother, to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sor-rowful. O Mother of the word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in they mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright, © J. S. Paluch Co.

Today’s solemnity, the final feast of the Church year, is a youngster as feasts go. In 1925, Pope Pius XI was distressed by global political up-heaval and the de-Christianizing of society. That year was a “Holy Year,” keyed to the sixteen hundredth anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, when the words “and of his kingdom there will be no end” were added to the Creed. The Pope explained that although most feasts had developed over many centuries, the Church sometimes provided a new feast to address new needs. He pointed to the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, showing Christ’s love and compassion in a time when many people embraced a cold and gloomy spirituality. Originally on the last Sunday of October, in the late 1960s the solemnity of Christ the King was moved to the last Sunday of the year. Fresh from baptism’s waters, we are anointed with chrism “as Christ was anointed priest, prophet, and king.” This feast is a key to our identity. On this feast, we recognize Christ as a king who breaks the usual mold of kingship, and who shapes his kingdom with our hands, our words, our deeds of love and service. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Stewardship Collection

In memory of Richard and Dolores Sajtar on their Anniversary

Offered by Connie Sajtar

The Heavenly Dusters, a group of dedicated pa-rishioners who serve our Parish by cleaning the Church every week, is asking for volunteers to help with their efforts. The group meets every Friday, immediately following the 8 am morning Mass to dust, vacuum, polish, sweep, etc. so that we enjoy a clean and tidy worship space for our weekend Liturgies. The Heavenly Dusters reduce our parish’s operational expenses by thousands of dollars per year and we are most thankful for their sacrifice. However, as the saying goes, “Many hands make light work.”. Are you available for 1 hour per week on Friday mornings? If so, your help would be most welcome. Contact the parish office @ 847-468-6900 for more information.

A few weeks ago, Father Andrew announced at Masses that Habitat for Humanity would like to partner with St. Laurence in their effort. Several parishioners have expressed interest in leading this effort and the time has come to provide more information. Habitat’s goal is to provide each faith community with an avenue to support their mission that best aligns with the community’s ability to participate. That being said, there are five levels of commitment that are designed for participation: Prayer – Include their mission in our monthly prayer intentions. Awareness – periodically distribute announcement material

(bulletin announcements, fliers, etc.) to draw attention to their mission and need for volunteers.

Lunches – provide lunches to their Saturday construction volun-teers usually in the form of sandwiches, refreshments and deserts.

Volunteers – participate in construction projects. Financial Support – contribute to the underwriting of an affordable

home. Please mark your calendars for the weekend of November 23-24 to attend informational meetings after all Masses. The meetings will take place downstairs in the cafeteria and all are welcome, even encouraged, to attend. Habrá interprete español/inglés.
