First Sunday of Lent

Prayer Shawl Ministry is forming

This is an inquiry for a new ministry

at St. Margaret’s. Knowing that many

of you either crochet or knit, would

you be interested in making lap

shawls for our shut-ins and elderly or

white baptismal shawls for newly

baptized parishioners? Some

parishes have their Prayer Shawl members meet once a

month to work in prayer. Other parishes have busy

hands working at home and then bringing their shawls to

the parish. Either way, are you interested?? Please call or

email the office at 438-3230 if you want to participate.

GRADE 2 Families: There will be

a Parent Meeting regarding First

Eucharist on Sunday, March 19,

at 9:15 a.m. in the school

basement. At least one parent must attend. If your child

was not baptized at St. Margaret, please bring a copy of

his/her baptismal certificate to the meeting.

GRADE 3-6 Families: As part of our Faith Formation

Program's Lenten observance, there will be a Penance

Service on Saturday, March 18, at 3:30. This is a

mandatory service.

Daily Rosary—This year, as we celebrate

the centennial of the apparition of Our

Lady of Fatima, Lent provides an ideal

time to begin or renew the practice of

praying the rosary. Please join us,

Monday—Friday, at 7:30 a.m. in the church.

Our Lady of Fatima Visitation

Lent offers you and your family a

perfect opportunity to participate in

this special parish devotion to the

Blessed Mother. The statue and the

Visitation Case will be picked up after

any weekend Mass, and returned to

the vestibule area prior to the 5:00

p.m. Mass the following Saturday. If you and your

family would like to participate, please call the rectory

(438-3230) to reserve a week. Thank you!

Eucharistic Gifts—If you schedule a weekend Mass and

would like to bring the gifts up to the altar, please speak

to the sacristan or one of the ushers

as you enter the church.

2017 Catholic Charity Appeal

“Faith and Good Works”

Thank you to all who have donated to the Catholic

Charity Appeal. Our in-pew solicitation continues this weekend, and we ask you to be as generous as possible in

support of our brothers and sisters in need throughout

the Diocese of Providence.

The Diocese has recently released a new Directory of

Services, which provides a summary of the many

ministries and services available. Thousands of individuals and families are helped each year, which is

made possible by the support of parishioners throughout

Rhode Island. This directory truly reflects the scope of

your Catholic Charities donations at work.

To access the directory online, visit the diocesan website

(www.dioceseofprovidence.org) and click on the box

labeled “Directory of Services” on the home page.

Parish Mission

“Mary, the Model of Discipleship”

March 19—21 Each evening at 7:00 in the Church

Mission Preacher: Fr. Jeremy Rodrigues

Director of the Office of Worship

Diocese of Providence

“Lent offers us the practical and effective weapons of fasting and

almsgiving as a means of combating an excessive attachment to

money. Giving not only from our abundance, but

sacrificing something more in order to give to the needy,

fosters that self-denial which is essential to authentic

Christian living. Strengthened by constant prayer, the

baptized reveal the priority which they have given to God

in their lives.” — St. John Paul II

“Autism Eats” is coming to East Providence

St. Brendan’s Church is collaborating with Autism Eats, a

non-profit organization that helps promote and provide

autism-friendly, and non-judgmental environments for

family dining, socializing, and connecting with others who

share similar joys and challenges

Families with children on the autism spectrum often face

challenges when dining out. “Autism Eats” helps to train

and educate restaurant staff and addresses issues such as

lighting and environment, reducing wait times by having

foods “ready on arrival” and providing a friendly

environment free from social pressures and

expectations. These are family dinners and those attending

have a loved one on the spectrum, so there is no need to

apologize, explain, or feel uncomfortable. It is an

opportunity to enjoy a night out and socialize with others

who share many of the same joys and challenges.

These events are for the general public and any family with

children who might benefit from these gatherings. Dinners

are by reservation only and a set per-person price will have

been negotiated with the restaurant in advance.

The first of what we hope to be regular Autism Eats

dinners in Rhode Island is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Tuesday,

March 21st at Chelo’s Hometown Bar and Grille, 911

Warren Ave in East Providence.

Tickets for this event must be purchased in advance

through the AutismEats.org website.

The Pastor’s Page

A blessed Lent to all. We have

begun the formal preparation

period for the Resurrection.

Let’s make our mutual task to

invite someone back to Christ

for Easter. Our absent sisters and brothers are out there…

our Lenten challenge is “to bring them home to Christ for

Easter.”

Here are some helpful suggestions for our Lenten

discipline and we enter this holy season:

Attend the Lenten Daily Mass at 8 a.m.;

Daily prayer (Find some uninterrupted time with

God);

Celebrate the Sacrament of Penance (Be not afraid!);

Tri-parish Confessions on March 25—see notice

below;

Stations of the Cross and Benediction on Thursdays

at 7:00 PM;

Donate the money saved if you abstain from food,

alcohol, sweets during Lent;

Increase your annual gift to the Catholic Charity

Fund Appeal;

Read Psalm 139 daily (It will change you);

Bring someone back to Christ and the parish;

Spent quality time with your spouse, family/ friends;

Stop making excuses…just do it, and with love;

Strive for genuine holiness before God and self.

The ideal is to become someone who is genuinely striving

for God during these 40 days of Lent. God will fill the

gaps if we but offer ourselves to Him.

A blessed Lent! See you next week…with a friend!

~ Monsignor Darcy

St. Margaret, St Teresa and St. John–Paul II Parishes

will celebrate a Day of Penance

on March 25th from 10 AM to 2 PM

Several priests will be available

for non-stop Confessions.

This will serve as our Parish Penance Service for Lent.

Plan to join us and receive God’s mercy

during this holy Lenten Season.
