ST. MARY CATHEDRAL LANSING, MICHIGAN
WEDNESDAY POT LUCK DINNERS The St. Mary parish potlucks are every Wednesday night at 6pm in the Parish Hall. The potlucks have been a great way to share a meal and socialize/get to know fel-low parishioners. All you need to do to attend is to bring a dish to pass, your own table service and $2 (for the main dish that the cooking team has provided). The cooking teams provide a main dish item as well as bev-erages. Come join us for the Wednesday night potlucks - you’ll be glad you did! If you would like more infor-mation on this or would like to help, please contact Mike or Terri Hecksel at 482-3196.
RECEPTIONS Those bringing goodies for the reception for Msgr. George, next weekend, are asked to drop off items in the parish hall (preferably on a dish/tr y that does not need to be returned) at least one hour before each Mass. Someone will be present to receive them. Questions? Call Sr. Joan (484-5331) or Mike (896 6913).
Receptions for Msgr. George Michalek Next weekend will be Msgr. George’s final weekend with us. After each of the Masses there will be a farewell reception and a chance for us to offer him our gratitude and memories. Let us send him off with our love and prayers. Happy Father’s Day It can take some digging in our culture to find an im-age of a father who is inspiring. I am having trouble thinking of one right now, even though I know there are some. Many times in entertainment, fathers are portrayed as buffoons, absent, abusive, or just bland. I do not know any man who wants to be a father like that. I think most men want to give the best of them-selves to their families, but do not always know how. Imperfect men, who wish to be more perfect. Imper-fect men, who ache above most things, for the respect and love of their families and friends. I wish a happy Father’s Day to all the men who wish to be more than what sometimes our culture says a father can be. You are men of sacrifice, vulnerabil-ity, decision, service, caring, hope, leadership, pres-ence, and faith. The list can go on. Many times your care is invisible. Know that it is seen by God and will be felt by your family, even in unknown ways. Our ache for more is God’s longing within us that only He can complete and only He can really guide. To be a father is to reflect God in a particular way. It takes a choice to be a Father. It takes encouragement and grace to persevere in fatherhood. I invite us all to name a quality or two in our fathers (living or dead) and to thank them for those attributes. We all need to hear the good named within us, because sometimes we only give voice to the bad. We also all need to speak the good in one another to help cultivate the gift that every other person is. I also invite us to pray for our fathers. Grace completes nature. Happy Father’s Day! May the God who made you and whom you represent to your kids bless you, heal you, and help you to rejoice in Him. You are in my prayers. Fr. Karl Pung

TASK FORCE ON RACE & CATHOLIC SCHOOLS The public is invited and welcome to attend the next and final listening session and meeting of the Diocese of Lansing Task Force on Race and Catholic Schools at 5:00pm, Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at St Thomas Aquinas Church, East Lansing. The task force is a racially and ethnically diverse group comprising appointees from around the diocese. Bishop Boyea has asked the members of the Task Force to listen to all diocesan Catholic School constituents – students, families, faculty, and staff – on the matter of race and Catholic schools. Bishop Boyea expects the task force to develop and deliver to him a set of recommendations later this year, in accordance with Catholic social teaching about how Diocese of Lansing Catholic Schools can better understand the needs of racial and ethnic communities in the context of the community of God, which gives meaning and substance to each of us and our relationship with each other, as Jesus made clear.
