GUIDING LIGHT ST. MARY MYSTICAL ROSE

We the faithful of St. Mary Mystical Rose Parish are a Catholic Community in the Archdiocese of Detroit. We serve God through His Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, with the empowerment and the

strength of the Holy Spirit: to celebrate the Holy Sacraments and Worship, Christian Service and Faith Education, to evangelize and practice our faith in active stewardship--with the faith, spirit

and humility of Mary, the Rose of God and our Patron Saint.

January 15, 2017—Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

You are my servant...(Isaiah 49:3, 5-6).

“He is amazing,” “She is hilarious,” “I think of the world

of him or her,” “WOW!” Some of these commendations

and praises we heard all the time, when one thinks highly of

someone they know, or has been positive and outstanding in

good demeanor and behavior. Especially, the wonderful

comments we always hear from the awesome people who

make a great impact in someone’s life, and a good differ-

ence in family, community, or nations.

Today’s Readings, we heard similar testimony and wit-

nesses of those who know, see, and heard the person name

JESUS!

The Prophet Isaiah 49:3, 5-6; speaks of Jesus’ attributes;

His calling and His resume of who He is and what is he be-

coming and do for everyone. Jesus, the Son of God is the

“…light to the nations…salvation of the earth…servant…

show my glory…raise up the tribes of Jacob and restore the

survivors of Israel.” This Lord Jesus will set the cap-

tives free and gives hope and salvation to all.

In addition, the Second Letter of Saint Paul to the Corin-

thians, Saint Paul reminds the community of the calling

they had received from Christ Jesus and greeted and blessed

the community. Saint Paul reminded the faith community as

he states, “…you who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus,

called to be holy, with all those everywhere who call upon

the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours.”

And again, today’s Holy Gospel according to Saint John,

John recognized and acknowledged the Son of God,

“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the

world.” Saint John described Jesus, the Son of God as the

“Lamb of God,” “I saw the Spirit come down like a dove

from heaven and remain upon him,” “see the Spirit come

down and remain,” “the one who will baptize with the

Holy Spirit.” As a result, Saint John attested and emphati-

cally to what he saw and witnessed, “Now I have seen

and testified that he is the Son of God.”

As we celebrate this Second Sunday of Ordinary Time,

let us continue to witness and testify with strong vigor

that Jesus is the divine Word incarnate of God the Father.

The ONE who was born unto us, Jesus, who comes to

save us and show us the WAY to God the Father.

Jesus’ is Awesome, hilarious, is WOW factor for you

and I. Pray to Jesus that we will change for Him for the

better and make a positive difference in your faith and the

life of your family. Jesus is the holy servant of God!

Amen.

We’re following Pope Francis’ directive to “Go and Make a

Loud Noise for the Lord”

From the Faith Formation Team

Happy Ordinary Time.

The Sundays and weeks of Ordinary Time take us through the life

of Christ. This is the time of conversion. This a time when we focus

on living the life of Christ.

Some Reminders:

For Faith Formation on Tuesday January 17, we will be sharing the Nar-thex space with the Knights of Columbus as they are sponsoring a blood drive with the American Red Cross. Please have your children enter through the “East/West” doors closest to Armada Ridge Road for our faith formation classes. Also, we will dismiss from the church, so please use the “East/West” doors for pick up at dismissal time. Please consider do-nating blood during the K of C blood drive. Although walk-ins are wel-come, appointments may be scheduled by calling 1-800-733-2767

(sponsor code Kofcarmada). Give blood, give life.

On January 24, our family enrichment series will be presenting “Internet safety for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren”. The 1 hour presentation will begin at 6:30 in the church proper. All are welcome to join us this evening.

Also, in 2017 we will be re-starting the Education Commission. I am seek-ing 5-10 people who are willing to give 1-2 hours a month to assist in the planning of our parish’s teaching mission to assist each parishioner, from youth to mature learners, to grow in faith throughout life. Please call or email me if you feel called to this ministry.

Wishing you all the peace of Christ as we enter more deeply into his mystery..

Thank-you to all who are acting as

prayer intercessors for our sacramental candidates. The catechism of the Catholic Church

reminds us that intercessors act in imitation of Christ (2634) , in concert with the steadfast love of God (2635), and in imitation of the ear-liest Christian communities (2636). Thank-you for giving of yourself in prayer for these special children

Starting in January, we are

asking that the children of

the parish bring a non-

to the Food Pantry up to the

basket on the apron of the altar to collect

their donations. THANK-YOU for your help.

TIME & TALENT CORNER

Religious Education By Baptism we are all called to share our faith with those

we encounter. We are to "Witness Christ" to the

world. How do we Witness Christ? How do we share our

faith? Is it hard? The answer to the last question is NO ---

it is not hard at all! One way we can share our faith is by

being a part of the Religious Education Programs at St.

Mary Mystical Rose, sharing our faith journey with our

youth. What a beautiful experience you will have as you

share your journey with our children while guiding them

on theirs. From being a Catechist to an Aide, to assisting

in our Youth Ministry Program and participating in our

Bible Study Program, there are many opportunities to

share our faith. Each year, many hands are needed to

carry out programs for our children, youth, young adults

and adults. The more people on the team, the more pro-

grams that can be offered to our parishioners. If you love

your faith and would like to share it with others, please

consider being a part of the Religious Education

Team. The program is currently in need of a couple of

Catechists & Aides for the K-6 program, Confirmation

Team Catechists, Youth Ministry Planning Team Mem-

bers and facilitators for RCIA which is the Rite of Christian

Initiation of Adults. First, pray about becoming a part of

this vital mission of our parish. Training will be provided

for anyone joining any of the teams. If God is calling

you; please answer.

If you would like more information about this ministry, call

the parish office at 586-784-5966.

Bible Study

Here at St. Mary Mystical Rose parish, a faithful group

meets regularly to read and study the Bible. The Sacred

Scriptures are a special gift, a treasure given to us for our

journey by a Father who loves us. Regular Bible reading

increases our knowledge of the revealed truth. Reading,

studying and discussing the Word of God deepens our

relationship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Enhance your worship experience by learning more about

the Bible with the Bible Study group here at our parish.

There is no cost to join and all are welcome. If you would like more information about this ministry, call
