Youth Survey

Young people across Australia are being called to share their views about life, faith and their experience of Church through an online survey published by the Australian Bishops. The survey seeks to capture the opinions and perspectives of young people as part of a national consultation process that will inform an international conversation in Rome next year.

Australians aged between 16 and 29 are encouraged to complete the survey The questions cover a range of topics including the experience of being listened to, using social media and technology, friendships and influence in today's world, opportunities for engagement with Church activities such as, outreach programs, youth masses, community leadership or parish events. This is a unique opportunity for young people to have their voice heard on a range of topics. The Australian bishops see the potential of young people, they seek to listen to young people and they recognise that sometimes young people struggle to find their sense of place and purpose. Young people are encouraged to tell their friends about the survey or share the link with their networks.

Pope Francis has called on young people to join this inclusive journey that the Church 'wishes to listen to your voice, your sensitivity and your faith; even your doubts and your criticism. Let your voice be heard, let it resonate in communities.' He stressed ' Every young person has something to say to others...all of us need to listen to you!”, and added 'even young people who consider themselves agnostics, even young people whose faith is lukewarm; even young people who no longer go to Church; even young people who consider themselves atheists.'

Developed by the Pastoral Research Office in collaboration with the ACU Ethics Commit-tee, the survey can be completed online at: https://www.catholic.org.au/youthsurvey

It will run for four weeks, the closing date for responses is midnight on Sunday, 2 July 2017

CENSUS CARDS – I am grateful to the many who took time last weekend to fill in their card – and invite those yet to fill in their cards to kindly do so this weekend. I'm sorry if some feel incon-venienced through this exercise – as you know it is a help to have our records of parishioners and their families up to date. It appears it has been some 7 or more years since a proper census has

been undertaken.

You will understand over the time that has elapsed spouses have died, changes of address have occurred, new parishioners have arrived, (still to be welcomed). Not being informed can be very off-putting for priests when visiting to discover loved ones have died, situations have changed. Having you participate in the parish censorshipupdate will be very help-ful. I am grateful for your kind co-operation.

Dean Peter.

Paul Munday – Professional Standards

On Tuesday June 20, 7.00pm Chapter House. Mr Paul Munday Diocesan co-ordinator for professional standards, has accepted my invitation to give a presentation on Professional Standards, Working with Children and Police Checks.

Paul will speak to the importance of obtaining these and the implementation of Child Safety measures to be taken up in every parish. The agenda for implementation of Child safety measures in Parishes are a series of actions to increase our awareness and to meet regulatory compliance.

Also such things as a Visitors book (placed at reception in the Parish office) the signing also of the Parish Code of Conduct ( should be signed by every member of staff, volunteer and contractor involved in parish activity.)

Paul will emphasise the reason for a register of working with children checks which should be maintained for every person who holds a position of responsibility/leadership at the Parish Office. This includes staff, volunteers, (church cleaners, Eucharist Ministers, readers, choristers and musicians, children's liturgy/youth group leaders).

There are many questions in your minds I'm sure. You are very much encouraged to come to this meeting on Tuesday 21st June, 7.00pm in the Chapter House. I have requested the members of our school boards, the parish staff and teachers to be present. I extend an invitation also to parishioners. Please come to what I know will be a most informative enlightening and important time together. Dean Peter

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON: He fed them with the finest wheat and satisfied them with honey from the rock,

FIRST READING:

A reading from the book of Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14-16 Moses said to the people: ‘Remember how the Lord your God led you for forty years in the wilderness, to humble you, to test you and know your inmost heart – whether you would keep his commandments or not. He humbled you, he made you feel hunger, he fed you with manna which neither you nor your fathers had known, to make you understand that man does not live on bread alone but that man lives on everything that comes from the mouth of the Lord. ‘Do not then forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery: who guided you through this vast and dreadful wilderness, a land of fiery serpents, scorpions, thirst; who in this waterless place brought you water from the hardest rock; who in this wilderness fed you with manna that your fathers had not known.’ The word of the Lord. RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Praise the Lord, Jerusalem. O praise the Lord, Jerusalem! Zion, praise your God! He has strengthened the bars of your gates, he has blessed the children within you. (R.) He has established peace on your borders, he feeds you with finest wheat. He sends out his word to the earth and swiftly runs his command. (R.) He makes his word known to Jacob, to Israel his laws and decrees. He has not dealt thus with other nations; he has not taught them his decrees. (R.) SECOND READING: A reading from the first letter of St Paul to the Corinthians 10:16-17 The blessing-cup that we bless is a communion with the blood of Christ, and the bread that we break is a communion with the body of Christ. The fact that there is only one loaf means that, though there are many of us, we form a single body because we all have a share in this one loaf. The word of the Lord. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION: Alleluia, alleluia! I am the living bread from heaven, says the Lord; whoever eats this bread will live for ever. Alleluia!

GOSPEL: A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 6: 51-58 Jesus said to the Jews: ‘I am the living bread which has come down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, for the life of the world.’ Then the Jews started arguing with one another: ‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’ they said. Jesus replied: ‘I tell you most solemnly, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you will not have life in you. Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life, and I shall raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in him. As I, who am sent by the living Father, myself draw life from the Father, so whoever eats me will draw life from me. This is the bread come down from heaven; not like the bread our ancestors ate: they are dead, but anyone who eats this bread will live for ever.’ The Gospel of the Lord. COMMUNION ANTIPHON: Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him, says the Lord
