Dear Parents and Friends,
A wonderful start to the school year was
celebrated last Friday, when Year 6 students
Jessy-Raye, Georgia, Jasmine, Holly, Ryley
and Darcy were formally inducted as our
2014 school leaders and a special welcome
given to our Kindergarten students and their
families. We also welcomed our three new
students, Monique, Corinne & William and
their families. Thank you to everyone for
making this such a wonderful occasion for the
students.
Special thanks to Ed Karauna for cooking the
BBQ and to Renae Smith, Renee Fox, Jenny
Jackson and Maria Irwin for assisting with
lunch organisation as well as cleaning up
afterwards. Thank you also to the families in
Years 1-5 who supplied the lovely cakes,
slices, biscuits etc for our special guests.
Congratulations to our 2014 School Leaders
We know you will be wonderful leaders and a
credit to St Mary’s.

on the lovely Mass and celebration.

CAKE RAFFLE
This Friday the 28th the
GLYNN Family
is asked to supply the cake for the Cake
Raffle.
Tickets 20c each sold at lunchtime.
iPads and PRIME TV VISIT Last Monday students in Year 3/4/5/6 were delighted to be
presented with their brand new iPads.
Mr Steve Carter delivered the iPads the Thursday before and once they were set
up ready to go the students were allowed to ‘explore’ them.
The iPads have many new educational apps that the students will be able to use
for class work and activities.
Year K/1/2 were also given their iPads this week which they were very excited
about.
At this stage the iPads will be kept at school. ICT student agreements and iPad
agreements will be sent home soon and once these have been returned signed
the students may take the iPads home for school use.
Prime TV were at school today, doing a story about this exciting iPad initiative
which should air on TV Wednesday or Thursday evening.

LEARNING GOALS All students will be setting personal
learning goals during this week.
These goals are something that each
student identifies as an area they would like
to work towards or improve on
during Terms 1 & 2.
The students will be assisted by
their teachers in setting these
personal goals. Each goal will
then be laminated and placed
on the students desk to help
remind them of what they are trying to
achieve.
Parent/Teacher meetings will be held
during Week 7.
WESTERN REGION SWIMMING
CARNIVAL Congratulations to our Western Region
Swimming Team:
Aidan Jones, Darcy Brennan Makenzie Glynn, Cassie Brennan, Holly Murrell, Jasmine Boxsell, Molly Baron and Ryley Collins,
who proudly represented our school last
Wednesday at West Wyalong.
All of these swimmers put in their best effort on the day
with many personal best times recorded.
Special congratulations are extended to……...
The Small Schools Relay Team comprising of
Darcy, Ryley, Jasmine & Cassie who swam a very exciting race to take out FIRST place!
On an individual level…………….
Ryley Collins came 3rd in the 12yrs Male 50m
Freestyle, 3rd in the Open 100m Freestyle, 4th in the
Senior Boys Backstroke,
3rd in Senior Boys Butterfly, 3rd in the Senior Boys
200m Individual Medley and Cassie Brennan came 3rd
in the Intermediate Female 50m Breaststroke. These two students along with the Small Schools Relay
Team will now go on to compete at the Archdiocesan
Carnival at Narooma next Monday 4th March.
All in all, it was a wonderful day and each one of the
students should all be very proud of their
fantastic effort and achievements on the day.
Thank you to parents for providing transport and
support to all our swimmers.

STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
I will be attending the Western Region Principal’s
Meeting followed by a Principal’s
Retreat/Conference in Bowral, from Tuesday 4th
March until Friday 7th March. Please direct all
enquiries to Mrs Hotham in my absence.
DAY CARE VISIT Year 5/6 will visit the Day Care at the Batlow
Hospital TOMORROW Wednesday 26th February
from 11.30-12pm. The students will walk to the
hospital accompanied by Mrs Hotham.
Yr 3/4/5/6 ASSEMBLY
Yr 3/4/5/6 will present their very first
assembly for the year, Friday 21st March
at 12.15pm in the School library.
All parents and friends welcome to attend.
Please note change of time and date.
Lent 2014 Tuesday 4th of
March is Shrove
Tuesday. Year 6
will be cooking
pancakes for all
the students.
On Wednesday the 5th of March,
there will be an Ash Wednesday Mass
in the Church at 12pm, all welcome.

‘Collaborating On Student Achievement’ St Mary’s welcomes Mrs Maree Williams Literacy Coach
from the CEO who spent yesterday and today working
with the staff on all areas of Literacy.
Mrs Williams will be supporting our staff and students in
developing the best practices in Literacy to assist all
students throughout the year.
This is a new initiative of the CEO this year and we look
forward to having Mrs
Williams visit our school on
a regular basis throughout
the year.
MS ROCHE SICK LEAVE
Ms Roche has extended her sick leave.
Mrs Murray will continue to teach
K/1/2 in her absence.
We wish Ms Roche a speedy recovery.

SWIMMING FOR SPORT-YEAR 3/4/5/6
For the next two Fridays, Year 3/4/5/6 students will have
swimming for sport. The students are asked to please bring their
swimmers, towels, goggles, etc to school with them to school for
lessons. Lessons will be held from 2.00-3.00pm.
Mr Worrick Shaw will transport the students to and from the pool.
Mrs Beth Smith will conduct some safety lessons
