FROM the PASTOR

Dear St. Matthew Parishioners,

On behalf of Fr. Duesterhaus, our deacons and our parish staff, I would like to thank all of you for your prayers and support during this difficult time. It has been gratifying to see so many of you making visits to the church to pray before the Blessed Sacrament, to offer a Rosary or make the Stations of the Cross, and to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance. Our great contribution to the struggle against the scourge of the coronavirus is the prayer we offer each day as God’s Holy People, entrusting all peoples to His infinite mercy, compassion and healing. Bishop Burbidge’s suspension of all public Masses and devotions has been extended through Easter Sunday. On the parish website, we will post videos of Masses for the 5th Sunday of Lent, Palm Sunday and Holy Thursday; the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion on Good Friday; and the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday Night. There were over 300 viewings of our Mass for the 4

th Sunday of Lent, and I

hope that number will grow! Please accept my thanks for the offerings you have brought or mailed to the Parish Office, or made through online giving. Your continued generosity is vital to helping your parish through this trying time. Because of your prayers and support, St. Matthew’s is a holy place where God is worshipped, the truth of the Gospel is proclaimed, and those in need are served, helped and consoled. May God bless and keep you. Gratefully,

Fr. Eversole

The Augustine Institute presents a beautiful meditation on the Stations of the Cross by Saint Alphonsus Liguori, narrated by Dr. Christopher Blum. This prayerful reflection is accompanied by the Schola Cantorum of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Littleton, CO,

chanting the traditional Catholic hymn Stabat Mater, in Latin, which depicts the loving presence of Our Sorrowful Mother, sharing in the suffering of Christ at the foot of the cross.

ST. ISIDORE of SEVILLE

FEAST DAY: APRIL 4TH

St. Isidore’s love of learning led him to promote the establishment of a seminary in every diocese of Spain. He didn't limit his own studies and didn't want others to as well. In a unique move, he made sure that all branches of knowledge including the arts and medicine were taught in the seminaries. As bishop of Seville for 37 years, he set a model for representative government in Europe. He lived to be 80 years old. One of his last acts was to give all his possessions to the poor.

A PRAYER TO JESUS for HEALING and GUIDANCE

Jesus, Son of God, you were sent by the Father to bear our weakness; be with us in this time of crisis.

Merciful Savior, heal and comfort the sick, so that, with health restored, they may give you praise.

Divine Physician, accompany our caregivers so that, serving with patience, they may heal wisely.

Eternal Wisdom, guide our leaders so that, seeking remedies, they may follow your light.

Christ, the Anointed, protect us in body and spirit, so that, freed from harm, we may be delivered from all affliction.

Who live and reign with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
