Again, a big ‘Well done’ for those of you that have been sending in more photos and emails about what you have been doing at home. I hope you all enjoyed the choice of the project this week. I can see the space project was a popular choice. It would be lovely to see which ones you all chose and decided to research and discover about. This week, you will also have a choice for your project. Below are some proposed activities for you to complete. As always, try your best to work your way through them as much as possible but don’t get too worried if you can’t complete them all. If you can, take photos and send them in so we can see what everyone has been learning about. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you anymore about when or if you will be returning. The decisions is out of our hands for the time being whilst we wait for numbers returning for other year groups to settle. As soon as we know anymore though, I can assure you we will let you know. Keep checking our school’s webpage and the school’s Facebook page for any further updates.

Week commencing Monday 8 th June 2020

Hello Year 6, I hope you all managed to make the most of the sun before it started raining last week.

Secondary Schools for September I just want to remind you all that some of your secondary schools have been uploading videos onto their school’s Twitter page for you to see the school and to get to know the staff. I know they have been updating their websites with sections especially for Year 6 children. It might be worth you and your parents taking a look on your secondary school’s website and Twitter page; some of them are even doing virtual tours which I think is really useful for you to familiarise yourself with your new school setting ready for September. I have also been in contact with your secondary schools and I have loved sharing lots of positive things about ALL OF YOU! So try not to worry too much – we are liaising with your secondary schools to make sure the transition is as smooth as it can be at this given time.

😊 Enjoy your week at home. Try to do as much of the work as you can but most importantly stay safe!

Below is a suggested day to day plan of ideas you could look at for your project.

Lesson 1: Research and make notes Research your project topic. Make notes, create spider diagrams and find out as much information as you can about your chosen topic. Consider the following questions:

1. Big Ben Where is it located? When was it built? Does it have any other names? What is its purpose? How many people visit it in a year? How many bells does it have? How tall is it? Do any special events take place here?

Lesson 2: Arts and CraftsUsing the suggested links below for your chosen topic, create a model/poster/sketches/drawings. You might have a more creative idea, but the links and pictures may help inspire you and some ideas.

1. Big Ben Craft and Art Ideas

There are also plenty of step by step videos on YouTube that will help you find your starting point if you wish to sketch it. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+draw+big+ben+for+kids

Lesson 3: Acrostic PoemRecapping on from your previous lessons, today you are going to use your research notes and the arts and crafts you made yesterday to help you write an acrostic poem for your chosen project. Think about what literacy skills you could show off in your acrostic poem. Here is a link to remind you what an acrostic poem is: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z4mmn39/articles/ztdvw6fOnce you have watched the link, think of some descriptive vocabulary you could use in your poem:

Metaphors Similes Hyperboles Personification Ambitious adjectives Ambitious verbs Ambitious adverbs

You could choose to have rhyming couplets if you wish to. Be as creative as you want using lots of descriptive detail so the reader really gets an understanding what your chosen project was about.Make notes/spider diagram to plan your poem and then write the first draft. After you have written it, re-read it, could you make any improvements? Could you use a thesaurus to improve the word choices? I always like to choose a word I have never used before to try and broaden my vocabulary. Could you choose a word to change to broaden your vocabulary?

Lesson 4: Fact FileToday, you are going to use your research notes to write a fact file of your chosen project. You can choose how you want to set it out e.g. choose your own headings and subheadings. Try and record as many facts and information as you can about your chosen project and don’t forget your literacy

skills. Don’t forget to extend your sentences structures (relative clauses, prepositional phrases, fronted adverbials, relative clauses etc) and your punctuation (brackets, commas, hyphens, semi colons, dashes etc). You can include as many drawings as you want and you can label them if you wish. Think about how your writing could be organised using different subheadings e.g. location, appearance etc Below are some examples just for you to get an idea of the format you could present yours in:

You may also choose to present yours as a booklet which is also fine.
