The three of us stood outside Crestwood High and observed the line of traffic headed towards St Michael’s school. Parents from St Michael's were already parked in the No parking zone from 2.40 pm. The Hills Shire Council is very concerned about the safety of students and parents whose children attend either the high school or our school. From what we observed it is obvious that there is a total disregard for the Parking rules in Chapel Lane. If the rules are not followed there may be the possibility that our Slow and Go will have to be dis- banded. The Slow and Go gates are not opened until 3.15 pm. Why are we queuing at 2.40 pm? The gates do not close until 3.40 pm. It is possible for our excellent Slow and Go system to continue if we all work together. We could for instance stagger the times of our arrival. If your eldest child is in Kinder you arrive at 3.15 pm, Year 1 at 3.20 pm, Year 2 (eldest child) at 3.25 pm, Year 3 at 3.30 pm, Year 4 at 3.35 pm and Years 5 and 6 at 3.40 pm. Please note the following penalties and demerit points associated with all offences in School Zones. Please do not place our Slow and Go system in jeopardy. Let’s all work together to keep our community safe. Issue 22 Term 3 Week 3 Thursday 1 August 2013

From the Principal From the Principal From the Principal From the Principal

Dear Parents,

Last Tuesday I met with the Principal of Crestwood High, Therese Hourigan; Angela Vernicos, Road Safety Officer, The Hills Shire Council; and Michael Doyle, Engineer, The Hills Shire Council.

If the rules are not followed there may be the possibility that our Slow and Go will have to be dis-banded.

The Compliance officers will be booking people from Monday afternoon.

“God, my Father in heaven, give me discernment in my everyday proceedings, so that when the big issues come

along I will be prepared to do what is right. Through the Gifts of the Holy Spirit may I be strong in moral courage;

may this strength be in my children. Amen.”

Wishing you every blessing for the week ahead.

ly. Seventeen boys from Year 6 were the 2013 Parra-

State Cup held on Monday at Whalan Reserve,

Tregear. Coached by Scott Watson and Steve Wilde

with trainers Andrew Madden and Michael Gremmo,

they represented their school and families with distinc-

tion as they were undefeated throughout the carnival

and proceeded to the grand final. The grand final be-

tween the top two school teams in the state was a

great game of rugby league and was drawn nil all

when the siren sounded. Unfortunately the boys lost

in golden point extra time.

The team consisted of the following players: Dylan

Madden, Matt Kubatka, Zane Dean-Matthews, Con-

nor Shelley, Daniel Abela, Edmond Matta, Jack

Holliday, Tom Watson, Cecil Lahood, Owen

Storkey, Josh Cavallo, Harrison Wilde, Brandon

Moore, Josh Beattie, Nathan Gremmo, Jack Nos-

talgi and Alex Finnegan

Pool A matches:

Defeated Wollondilly Anglican College 6-0,

Defeated Macquarie Fields Public School 24-0, De-

feated Holy Family Emerton 6-4

Quarter-Final

Defeated Albion Park Public School 24-6

Semi-Final

Defeated Avoca Beach Public School 6-4

Grand Final

Narrowly defeated by Valentine Public School 4-0 in

Golden Point.

The coaching staff would like to express our gratitude to

the school for allowing us to assist in the development

of the boys over the past five years. We have observed

the boys grow in maturity and confidence during their

formative years and attribute this to the excellent tuition

and guidance provided by the teachers who work for

this great school. As this is the last year at the school

for these boys we wish you continued success in the

future and will miss these special events. To the boys

we wish you every success in your challenges ahead

and enjoy your next journey in life at high school.

NEWS FROM 1R CLASSROOM

Yesterday, Year One had a visit from the CSIRO. They came to talk to us about sound. We learnt how it is made and how it travels. We discovered that sound can travel through air and water. It can also travel through solid things. We learnt that sounds can be loud or soft. We also discovered that sounds can be high pitched or low pitched. A longer instrument makes a lower pitched sound and a shorter instrument makes a higher pitched sound.

Here are some photos of us having fun experimenting with sound.
