Toddler Room Term Planning January Theme: Healthy eating Week 1 This month the children will be learning about the healthy eating. They will be encouraged to bring their favourite fruits and vegetables in the Nursery and talk about them during circle time. The children will be listening/ watching on the ICT board the “Hungry Caterpillar” story. Also the children will be painting various fruits and vegetables. Week 2 This week we will transform the home corner into a Supermarket. The children will be exploring the fruits and vegetables. Also the toddlers will be developing their social skills while playing at the Supermarket where they will take turns to be a customer or a cashier. During this week the children will be learning different songs about

Toddler Room Term Planning January Theme: Healthy eatingWeek 1 This month the children will be learning about the healthy eating. They will be encouraged to bring their favourite fruits and vegetables in the Nursery and talk about them during circle time. The children will be listening/ watching on the ICT board the “Hungry Caterpillar” story. Also the children will be painting various fruits and vegetables.Week 2 This week we will transform the home corner into a Supermarket. The children will be exploring the fruits and vegetables. Also the toddlers will be developing their social skills while playing at the Supermarket where they will take turns to be a customer or a cashier. The children will be measuring with a scale, counting and sorting fruits and the vegetables in the “Supermarket”. Also this week the children will be making patterns while participating in a cooking activity to make fruit

Week 4 During this week the children will be encouraged to participate in craft activities to make their healthy plate. Also the children will be learning that to be healthy they will need not only healthy food but even exercise and hygiene. The children will be encouraged to brush their teeth .Garden area- Mud kitchen, running, jumping, climbing and dancing activities.Outdoor-Visiting local supermarket where the children will be encouraged to buy healthy food.

February Theme: “Feelings and emotions ” Week 1 On this week the toddlers will be celebrating Chinese New Year-Year of Pig. They will be encouraged to participate in different activities such as making paper fun, lanterns; exploring the Chinese objects on the display table; learning about Chinese tradition and food. The children will be encouraged to use chopsticks while eating noodles .Cooking activity: Chinese spring rollsWeek 2 During this month the toddlers will be learning about feeling and emotions, how to treat each other .During circle time the children will be using the emotion wheel to tell their friends how they feel or how they would feel e. g if they don’t have friends. Story time –reading different books to support the children’s learning about feelings and emotions. Carpet area -Play “Simon says” e.g.”Simon says , look happy…” and ask the children questions such as “What makes you happy?” etc.Week 3 The toddlers will be painting emoji faces. They will be encouraged to stick their emoji next to their photo in the self-registration board in the morning and change it during the day e.g if the child feels tired, sad, excited etc and talk about that feeling.

Play dough table- Printable faces play dough mat. Singing different Nursery Rhymes such as “If you happy and you know. Mathematics- grouping and sorting pictures with emotions. Craft –Painting paper plate to make a happy/ sad face.Week 4 This week the children will be exploring the flash cards with pictures of different emotions. Mirrors will be provided for the children and they will be encouraged to copy the face expression from the flash cards. Cooking- Making emoji pizza. Outdoor-Playing various group games in the garden such as “Hockey –cocky “etc. Making a ‘hug jar ‘e. g if a child is sad another child takes a heart from the jar and gives it to make him/her happy or if a child wants a hug takes a heart from the jar and gives it the person who wants a hug from.

March Theme: MinibeastsWeek 1 This month the children will be learning about minibeasts. The toddlers will be observing how the caterpillar will transform into a butterfly .ICT-“The hungry caterpillar story. Fiction and non-fiction books.”Light table –observing x-rays of different minibeasts. Allotment patch-Digging the patch and observing the bugs using magnifying glass. World Book Day-Dressing up as book characters. Children will be encouraged to bring a book for “Show and tell”Week 2 This week the children will be developing their fine motor skills while participating in various activities such as cooking activity where they will be making bug snacks; craft activities where the toddlers will be making paper plate bugs, spider printing ;or making caterpillar using pipe cleaner and cereal .

Small world play –tuff tray with soil, gravel, small pond, pot plants and plastic minibeasts. Celebrating St Patrick’s Day-Learning about different festivals and celebrationsWeek 3 During this week the children will be encouraged to participate in different sensory activity such tuff tray with noddles and minibeasts, mud and bug play dough or ice ball with minibeasts. Singing various Nursery rhymes such as “Ants go marching” etc. Role play – make a bug den using boxes, coloured paper, newspaper, fabric, pot plants. Dressing up as minibeasts. Music-Exploring sounds and movementsRed Nose Day-“Making the face funny to raise money”

Week 4 This week the children will be developing their mathematical skills when participating in craft activities to make ladybirds and butterflies. Minibeast counting games – spots, legs, wings. Repeating patterns - threading bead caterpillars. Water tray – five little speckled frogs. Celebrating Mother’s day – Baking and making gifts for mothers.Outdoor-Walking Bus; the children will continue their learning about road safety and observe the blossom flower on the environment

April Theme:Spring/EasterWeek 1: This week the children will be learning about the seasons-Spring. We will be talking about the changing of the weather and observing the changes in the environment such as flower blossoming etc. They will be encouraged to and make a garden collage or drawing and colouring flowers. Planting cress seeds in the egg. Play dough-Mixing various flower petals or herbs in the dough.Week 2: The children will be encouraged to develop their counting skills while counting flowers to make bouquets. The toddlers will be observing for minibeasts while digging the garden patch. They will develop their knowledge’s while planting the seeds in the garden. The children will be encouraged to do vegetable printing, flower collage .Water play –observing how flowers and leaves float. Outdoor-group games e. g“ Ring of roses”.Week 3: This week will be learning about festivals. The children will be making Easter basket, cards, and decorating bonnets. The children will be participating in different competition such as “Decorating the egg”, “Egg and spoon race” etc. These activities will support and develop different skills such as extending vocabulary, developing social skills etc. Week 4: This week the children will be celebrating Easter. The parents will be joining in with the children with different racing and competition. Also they will be taking part on the “Easter Bonnet Parade”. Outdoor-Visiting the Garden Centre
