Many of us think of Lent as a time to find some way to
make a sacrifice as a way to grow in our faith. So most of us try to give up something we like such as sweets, some tele-
vision time, or maybe even coffee. This is good to do since it also helps us grow in our self discipline in our faith espe-
cially in helping us avoid sin and to spend more time in prayer. Lent is also a time for us to take some time out of
our very busy lives and reflect on God's great perfect love for us. One way to do to this is to allow ourselves to truly
appreciate the gifts he has given us, especially the gift of his
Son Jesus Christ.
God has given us, through his Son, everything we truly
need to live a rich rewarding life full of true peace and great love for all eternity. We must remind ourselves that the
start of eternity is now. Today's Responsorial Psalm helps to remind us of the gifts we have received from God and to
remind us that these gifts are too great for us to just put aside for a later date or for something we might mistakenly
think is more important. We should take some time right
now (the start of eternity) and reflect on the words of this Psalm and allow ourselves to appreciate the love God our
Father has for each of us his children.
Here are the words of this week's Responsorial Psalm, we
need to let them soak into our heart:
"The Law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul; the decree of the Lord is trustworthy, giving wisdom to the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the com-mand of the Lord is clear enlightening the eye. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true, all of them just. They are more precious than gold, than a heap of purest gold;
sweeter also than syrup or honey from the comb." God is truly very good to us!
Have a very blessed Lent, Deacon Lou

LIGHT & LOVE HOLY HOUR Second Fridays
A Friday Night of Praise and Worship Friday, March 9th 7PM - 8PM
End your week with a new tradition of nighttime prayer at St. Patrick Parish. On the second Friday of each month, you are invited to bring the good and the bad, the highs and lows of your week and simply be present with God as you enter a restful weekend. Each Light & Love event will begin with a featured speaker or musi-cian, silent reflection, and time for reconciliation in order to guide our thoughts and prayers. After cleansing our souls, we will enter into ad-oration of the Blessed Sacrament, simply appreciating God’s endless love for us. Finally, we will close with shared worship and song to cele-brate the glory of being God’s beloved children.

FAST AND ABSTINENCE
OTHER ACTS OF PENANCE FOR LENT 2018
The Bishops of the United States prescribe, as minimal
obligation, that all persons who are fourteen years of age and
older are bound to abstain from eating meat on all the
Fridays of Lent and Good Friday. Further, all persons
eighteen years of age and older, up to and including their
fifty-ninth birthday, are bound to fast by limiting themselves
to a single full meal on Good Friday, while the other two
meals on that day are to be light. All the faithful are
encouraged, when possible, to participate at Mass and to
receive the Holy Eucharist daily, to celebrate frequently the
Sacrament of Penance, to undertake spiritual reading,
especially the study of the Sacred Scriptures, and to
participate in parish Lenten devotions as well as Lenten
education programs. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is
especially recommended.
Saint Patrick Parish is currently partici-
pating in a survey through the Catholic
Leadership Institute. The survey focuses
on the parish as a means of instilling and
developing discipleship in our community.
Your participation in the survey will pro-
vide valuable information for our Pasto-
ral Staff to develop a vision for better
meeting the needs of our growing com-
munity. Don’t miss this opportunity to
share your unique perspective. This sur-
vey will close in the beginning of March.
the survey is available online:

this important endeavor .

ST. PATRICK OUTREACH EASTER PROGRAM
Our annual Easter program is underway. Each year, our list
of friends in need grows, and we are asking your help for
this most rewarding program. We are in need of monetary
donaons for the purchase of scrip and pies. Please place
donaons in an Outreach envelope that can be found on the
tables in the Narthex of the Church. The envelope can be
put in the collecon basket, mailed or dropped off at the
office, 126 Woodland Ave. We also need candy donaons
for the Easter baskets for the children in each family. There
is a container in the vesbule of church for all candy dona-
ons. Our candy and monetary donaon drive has begun
and will conclude the weekend of
March 17th
/18th. This year, we will also be
delivering an Easter plant to our shutins
to help brighten their holiday.
Thank you for your help.
