Reflections :
Have you ever gone through a stretch of time where, no matter what you do, things just aren’t
going smoothly? A time, when, in all aspects of life, things seem a little bit off - maybe you keep
dropping things, or forgetting things, or can’t seem to say the right things and, the people around
you (yourself included) seem a little grumpier than usual.
That was my experience a couple of weeks ago. I use the words ‘low mojo’ to describe those phases, be-
cause, to me, they feel as though my energy or spark or whatever, is misfiring or not at all, or misaligned in
some way.
It happened somewhere around Christmas Day, and I had heard Andy Williams and Nat King Cole and
chestnuts on fire and ‘whoop-dee-doo’ a little too many times. I found my mind kinda drifting off to memories
of my sister Lisa’s last Christmas in 2003 (she would be gone 3 months later). I also found myself, once
again, struggling to answer the question ‘Why are people so cruel?’, from a tearful 12 year old. Another time, I
think just after Christmas, I was reading the news, and concluded that mankind seems determined to destroy
themselves. To make things worse, for some reason lately, our cat has found it entertaining darting between
my feet as I’m walking around the house and down the stairs. Does he know how much I’m trying not to step
on him. Apparently, he does, and thinks it’s hilarious.
Mostly, I was disheartened by my own attitude. Where was my Christmas spirit? How could I let the most
beautiful gift of love the universe has ever known, the ‘God with us’ gift of Christmas, not sink into my bones?
I should be feeling joyful. Instead, I’m all Mr. Grumpy McGrumpertin.
Eventually, I found myself listening to one of my favorite songs ever, ‘Always with me, always with you’ by
legendary guitar guru, Joe Satriani. It may not be for everyone, but it has been calming me down for over 3
decades. I started thinking about the title ‘Always with me…’ I listened over and over, thinking about ‘Always
with me…’
God is always with me. God is always with me.
I decided to say a little prayer at those times when I felt my ‘mojo’, my spirit, getting low, and of course, I
feel better. It’s funny to me that, sometimes, when I need God’s help the most, is precisely when I don’t ask.
Sometimes, I think ‘Eh…I can fix this myself…’
I can’t fix anything without Him, so it makes more sense to go to Him right away when things start to look a
little dark, and I can’t find the joy in life that I know is all around me.
In our Christmas message ‘Unwrapping Christmas’, Fr Tomasz and Deacon Chris talked about letting God
in, just a little bit, and letting Him do the rest. I think of water, finding it’s way through the smallest opening and
filling up til overflowing.
So, I hope you all had a great Christmas! But if you couldn’t quite connect to the Christmas Spirit the way
you’d hoped, for any reason, no worries. Ask God for help, and let Him in just a little. Jesus tells us to just be-
lieve. We don’t need to do anything to earn the most powerful gift in the universe - God’s love is
foreev…’Always with me, Always with you’
- Chris

come to our church as a Greeter, share the Word
by becoming a Lector, share the Bread and Wine
by become a Eucharistic Minister, help with the
Faith Formation Programs, knit a warm hug by
joining the Prayer Shawl Ministry, extend our sup-
port, outreach and welcome by joining the Wel-
coming Committee, Bereavement Committee,
Agape Café or Video Streaming Ministry…
or volunteer for a host of other things that you can
get involved in throughout the year. If you are in-
terested in giving of your time in service to our
church community - whether it’s in an ongoing min-
istry or once in a while when help is needed -

BLACKSTONE VALLEY EMERGENCY SHELTER
St Patrick's is a host-site for the Blackstone Valley Emergency Shelter on Tuesday nights for those in our community who are in need of a warm, safe place to sleep. The freezing temperatures and snowy conditions during the winter season bring extreme hardship to those that are homeless. As disciples of Jesus, we are called to help the less fortunate. If you are able to be that 'face of Jesus' to those in our community that are in need of com-
passion and support, please consider volunteering 'once a week - 5 hours'. We will train you and provide support so that you are comfortable with volunteering, most of your time will be spent visiting/talking with the guests in the shelter, just letting them know that someone cares about them. If you would like more information or are ready to start volunteering, please don't hesitate to contact myself. God Bless! Fred Beauregard, St. Patrick's Site Coordinator email: [email protected]
How about making a Cursillo weekend?
Cursillo or “short course in Christianity” is an uplifting and educational ex-perience. Cursillo was brought from Spain to the United States in
1962. The weekend is facilitated by a team of laypeople and clergy who deliver organized talks and discussions. What the presenters add to the
talks is the witness of their own lives, their struggles and triumphs in Christ. The weekend is full of laughter, prayer, great music, wonderful meals and so much more. Our 2020 dates are: Men’s – February 6-9,
2020 & September 10-13, 2020; and Women’s May 28-31, 2020 & October 22-25, 2020. All Weekends will be held at the Immaculate Conception Spiritual Renewal Center in Putnam, CT. For additional information,
please contact Pam Hamilton at 774.239.8909 or [email protected] Or Joan Laracy at 774.239.2474
