A note from Our Pastor:

As we continue in John chapter 6, we hear Jesus say, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” (Jn 6:51) This is a significant speech that he gives to people who think they may want to follow him. It is challenging to them, as Jews to understand how they can eat the flesh of this man. It is a revolting idea to eat his flesh and drink his blood.

This challenges many modern day Christians as well. They want to follow Christ, but they do not believe in the Real Presence of the Lord in the Eucharist. He comes to us, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the bread and the wine we offer - an act we call in theology “transubstantiation.” This means that what we offer - the bread and the wine - becomes the precious Body and Blood of Jesus after consecration, while still remaining under the appearance of bread and wine.

The Eucharist is real, and we need to learn how to see it with eyes of faith. Jesus helps us out to see this by providing different Eucharistic Miracles over the centuries--from those that appeared to doubting priests, so those that appeared to bolster people's faith throughout the world. This is something you can simply look up on the internet - they are fascinating stories.

May our community learn more and about about our Eucharistic Lord, and come to desire to be with Him.

May Our Blessed Mother, St. Tarcisius, and St. Teresa of Kolkata pray for us.

God Bless, Fr. Lawrence

Be an Informed Catholic

Catholic social teaching invites us to love and pursue justice for our neighbors; to protect the sacredness and uphold the dignity of human life at every stage of development; to seek peace and promote the com-mon good. The Florida Catholic Advocacy Net-work (FLCAN) allows Catholics across Florida to stay informed and take action on important pub-lic policy issues. FLCAN postcards will be avail-able in the pews for you to complete 8/25 & 26. Please drop your postcard in the collection basket that weekend or the next! You can also text FLCAN to 50457 to receive FLCAN notifications via text. Visit us today at www.flaccb.org for ad-ditional information.

School starts this Monday for public school students; and Tuesday, August 14th for St.

Patrick and St. Francis school students. Please leave a little early for work allowing time for students and school busses on the

road. Drive gently!

SCAM ALERT! In the past week, there have been several reports of fraud

through spoof email addresses involving our priests. In some cases, the perpetrator has taken an email address of a priest and changed it slightly to catch friends and acquaintances off guard.

They are asking for iTunes cards be purchased and sent to them. Please be aware of the iTunes scam and any others by

first checking to see if the email address is legitimate. You can have them call you to ensure it is not spam. But when in doubt,

don't respond. If you have been a victim, please report the crime to the FBI by pasting this web address into your

browser: https://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx. The more reports they receive from victims in the Diocese St. Augustine, the

more they are apt to respond. If you purchased iTunes cards, call Apple and ask for the iTunes department so they can shut down the iTunes account, They will not refund your money if

the cards have been used. Read this helpful alert from Ap-ple https://support.apple.com/itunes-gift-card-scams.
