Golden Opportunity with ◗❘❙ ❚❯❘❱❲❳❨❩❬ ❭❪❪❫❬

Through the help of Maurice Enneking, he went up onto the roof at our parish one day to check it out, thinking there may be some hail damage. As it turns out, there was a ton of hail damage. Thinking of how good things turned out financially with the rectory roof for us, I called the insurance company with the diocese to check it out and see what kind of money they would give us. Keep in mind that the roofs at the church, parish hall, vestibule, bell tower, and garage are only 13 years old. The insurance got back with me, and it turns out we got roughly $49,000.00, but with a depreciation of roughly $7,300.00.

The same roofing company who did the rectory is willing to do all of these roofs for the amount given to us by the insurance com-pany, the $49,000.00. The shingles would be the same as the rectory's shingles. The damage from water due to the roof and the soffits will also by addressed. Maurice Enneking agreed to do that for the amount given from the insurance company. Once the work is begun, if the water damage from the roof and soffits is more than was initially realized, the diocese told me to take pictures and they may possibly send the insurance claimer out again so that we may inherit more money for the necessary repairs.

The catch is that the parish has to cover the depreciation value, which is the $7,300.00.

We all have to keep in mind that we are getting roughly $42,000.00 for free (so to speak) thanks to the insurance right now, and that's greatly due to the fact that the current roofs did not last for nearly 30 years like they should have. If we wait another 15 years so that the roofs are indeed 30 years old, we would defi-nitely not get that huge chunk of change from the insurance com-pany in the future like we are now.

Given what has happened in the past with major maintenance at the parish, I have heard that the parishioners really pull through to take care of St. Patrick's. The method that has been done is to take up a Second Collection over a few months until we have ac-crued the necessary amount. We will start this in the month of May. I will also ask the Knights of Columbus to consider helping us reach our needed $7,300.00.

To help us all, here is the schedule for Second Collections for the next three months to help us know when we will be taking up this collection for our roofs. The dates listed are Saturdays and Sundays:

Thank you all ahead of time for your help and generosity in keep-ing our buildings standing strong. God bless you all. Fr. Vogel

The Vatican II Changes Connected with Scripture & the Homily at Mass ✩✪✫✬ ✭✮✬✯✰✱✮✬✰ ✲✳ ✭✫✬ ✴✵✴✶✬ ✯✮✬ ✭✲ ✴✬ ✲✷✬✸✬✹ ✱✷

more lavishly, so that richer fare may be provided for the faithful at the table of God's word. In this way a more representative portion of the holy scriptures will be read to the people in the course of a prescribed number of years.

By means of the homily the mysteries of the faith and the guiding principles of the Christian life are ex-pounded from the sacred text, during the course of the liturgical year; the homily, therefore, is to be highly esteemed as part of the liturgy itself; in fact, at those Masses which are celebrated with the assistance of the people on Sundays and feasts of obligation, it should not be omitted except for a serious rea-✰✲✸✺✻ ✼✽✯✾✮✲✰✯✸✾✭✱✿ ❀✲✸✾✵✶✵✱✿❁ ❂✯✭✵✾✯✸ ❃❃ ✹✲✾✱✿✬✸✭

on the Liturgy, paragraphs #51-52). What is an interesting and very great change that

came about with the changes in the Mass after Vati-can II is the amount of Sacred Scripture that is read. In the Mass before Vatican II, if a person attended Mass everyday for one year, they would hear about 30% of the Bible at Mass. Now, in the Novus Ordo Mass (the Mass we are familiar with today), if one were to attend Mass everyday for three years in a row, they will have read 70% of the Bible.

Furthermore, when one looks at the rubrics (which are the rules that the Catholic priest and Lay Faithful must follow for Mass and the other Sacraments) of the Mass before Vatican II, the homily was actually not considered a part of the Mass. It was considered ✩✲✱✭✰✵✹✬✻ ✲✳ ✭✫✬ ❄✯✰✰✺ ✪✫✬ ✷✮✵✬✰✭ ❅✲✱✶✹ ✵✸✹✵✾✯✭✬ ✭✫✵✰

by placing his maniple (the nice looking garment that a priest may wear on his forearm) on the Roman Mis-sal, and then preach at the Ambo. Now, the homily is considered an integral part of the Mass.

The intent of the homily is manifold, but the primary reason for the homily according to Vatican II is to see how Sacred Scripture is to be lived out as a Catholic Christian in our current day and age. Why? Because in ✽✯✾✮✬✹ ✽✾✮✵✷✭✱✮✬ ❅✬ ✬✸✾✲✱✸✭✬✮ ❆✲✹❇✰ ✾✲✸✭✵✸✱✲✱✰ ✶✵❈✵✸❉

history with Mankind. Scripture is intended to trans-form us to live the Catholic Christian life that we ought to live since living according to that Christian life is what will lead us to our true happiness and joy, hence the homily is to help us see how we may do that in 2018. Fr. Vogel
