Dear Friends,

My sister posted a picture on Facebook this week which read: “I have a

friend who is a Priest and I pray for him.” This post created a lot of com-

ments, many positive and inspiring, with the exception of one, my half-

brother’s post. His comment read: “I don’t (pray for priests) because I

have been disappointed by many”.

Today is “Priesthood Sunday” and the Church encourages the faithful to

pray for their priests and to express some kind of gratitude for the ministry

they have been called to. Like my half-brother, there are many people

who have been let down, disappointed and even hurt by priests. The faith-

ful should have high expectations of their priests and it is important to

remind them of such. However we must remember too that priests are

only human and thus not perfect. We too have problems, we have to deal

with stressful situations whether personal or ministerial, we too get sick

and lonely; we too are hurt by the actions and judgements of others. St.

Paul puts it perfectly clear in today’s second reading: “He (the priest) is

able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring, for he himself is beset

by weakness…” We too need forgiveness, so if you at any point in your

life have been disappointed by a priest, in the name of all priests I ask for

your forgiveness. Let us not forget however that there are a lot of good

priests out there too who are in need of your prayers.

Please pray for us priests who although unworthy to this call, God still

chose us from among men (humans) to be your representative before Him.

Please say a little prayer for me today, your humble servant.

Sincerely,

Fr. Bismarck

Queridos amigos,

No olvidemos

Atentamente,

Padre Bismarck

St. John’s Church

The Deaf Community invites you to join them for Mass every Sunday at 12:30pm

FOOD MEMORIALS If you wish to donate in memory

or in honor of a loved one, please call the rectory for more information.

The heart of our mission is to

provide comfort and com-

passion to those who live

with a terrible sense of aban-

donment and helplessness. We provide over 700 meals daily to

those who come hungry and in need. Some make their home in

benches at the railroad station, the airport terminals, or less-

elegant large refrigerator boxes. How one gets to such a point

varies; there are those who are mentally ill, others suffer from

alcohol or drug addiction, still others that can’t find work.

How do we do it? The people

who volunteer their time,

treasure, talent and energy are

our greatest assets. We would

welcome your being part of our

effort to bring God’s love into

the lives of those who come to us for help, following the Gospel

challenge to “feed the hungry and clothe the naked”.
