STEWARDSHP THOUGHT

“As the Lord spoke to me, the spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and I heard the one who was

speaking say to me, ‘Son of man, I am sending you…’” (Ezekiel 2:2-3)

God asks each of us to do some special work for Him. He gives us the resources we need to do His work. However, do we listen to God when He calls? Do we get up on our feet and use our talents to do the work He asks of us? Remember, God doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called.

Paul had weaknesses; but that didn’t stop him from being faithful to God and to the Church. Paul was a great apostle because he relied on the Lord. We have weaknesses in our lives, our parishes, diocese and even in our nation. Our weaknesses, though, don’t need to hinder us from working towards and achieving greatness. We have great opportunities to be open to God’s grace for allowing us to become saints.

I hope you enjoyed the Fourth of July. Having the holiday in the middle of the week seemed to me, to spread the celebrations over a longer period of time. God has blessed our nation and its people. We have a lot of reasons to be give thanks to God.

I think I’ve exhausted myself in the lengthy letter I wrote last week. There doesn’t seem much more for me to say at this point.

We continue to pray for Bishop Murry, all those who are sick, and for one another.

Enjoy summer. God bless you. With love, prayers, and gratitude,

Father Bob Edwards

Father Bob’s Corner .

Dear Friends,

[The Lord said,] My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness. - 2 Corinthians 12:9

There are times in our lives when we come to learn the importance of God’s grace. This usually happens when we’re at the end of our “wits/ropes.” We find that “hanging in there” has never been so difficult. Yet, the Lord says that “power is made perfect in weakness.” Paul says that this motivated him to boast of his weaknesses. That’s a very humbling statement to make. All of us have weaknesses, many of which we’re ashamed or try to cover up. Going to God with our weaknesses gives us the opportunity to see more clearly how God’s grace is there for us to receive.

Encountering Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration

A holy Hour of Adoration in our modern rat race is necessary for authentic prayer. -Bishop Fulton Sheen

Our hours of adoration will be special hours of reparation for sins,

and intercession for the needs of the whole world, exposing the sin-sick and suffering humanity to the healing, sustaining and transforming rays of Jesus, radiating from the Eucharist. -Saint Teresa of Calcutta

Consider Natural Family Planning

July 22-28 is Natural Family Planning Awareness week and this year’s theme is “Generations of Love: Humanae Vitae (1968-2018).” July 25 marks the 50th anniversary of Blessed Pope Paul VI’s encyclical letter Humanae Vitae which articulates the Church’s teaching about human sexuality, conjugal love and responsible parenthood. In the last fifty years there has been significant progress in modern methods of Natural Family Planning which are scientifically researched methods based on observation of the naturally occurring signs and symptoms of the fertile and infertile phases of a woman. To learn more go to www.doy.org or contact [email protected] or call 330-744-8451 ext. 272.

MEET JIM - My name is Jim. Not long ago, my wife and I were living out of our car with 3 kids – all under age 5. My family and I were forced to live off of the little bit of savings when we arrived to Ohio. Both my wife and I were looking for immediate employment, but that proved to be difficult in an area where jobs were already sparse. Without a source of income, we couldn’t get approved to rent an apartment. Just a few short weeks of living in the car with only an occasional night in a hotel, had tested our faith and patience. We prayed every day for God to show us a new path to follow.

Finally, I saw a bit of light at the end of a very long tunnel. I had a promising interview on a Wednesday morning. They offered me a position and I would be starting a new job on Monday. It was less money than I had originally planned for, but it would be just enough to keep our heads above water. In the meantime, I decided to call Catholic Charities. My family still needed help until I got my first paycheck. We met with a Catholic Charities caseworker who listened to our story and made us feel at ease. She was able to arrange for us to stay in a local motel, and help us with some food. My wife and I felt like our caseworker wanted us to succeed as much as we did! Going to Catholic Charities was just the thing my family needed to be able to make it here in Ohio. Catholic Charities not only helped us with food and a safe place to stay, they gave us hope for a new beginning. Jim’s story reminds us how fragile life can be, and how quickly a major set-back can transform into a full-blown crisis.
