GOOD NEWS REFLECTION: WHAT'S YOUR SPIRITUAL THIRST?

What are you thirsty for? Thirst is what happens when we lack something vital. Water is essential for our physical survival, and our bodies signal us when it's time to drink fluids to stay healthy. Likewise, water is necessary for our spiritual survival, albeit a different sort of water -- the living water, which we first received from the baptismal water that purifies us for eternal life. This living water is a holy water that enables us to have abundant life in Christ. The Holy Spirit is the Giver of Life. One of the biblical symbols that represents the presence of God's Spirit is life-giving water. Therefore, we can surmise that Jesus wanted to give the gift of the Holy Spirit to the Samaritan woman. Why? It would still be a while before the Holy Spirit descended upon everyone at Pentecost. She needed the truth; the Holy Spirit is Truth, and Jesus wanted to give her whatever she needed to repent and receive salvation and then share this new life with the people around her. We only get thirsty when we haven't had enough to drink. Spiritual thirst shows itself in many forms: addictions, loneliness, despair, frustration, self-indulgence, or any other feeling or behavior that's triggered when we lack something that we need or want. And why would we lack anything spiritually? Because, like the woman at the well, we sometimes fail to realize that Christ is with us. We need to receive a spiritual healing. How does God give us this healing? He pours his love into us with all sufficiency, but to drink of it, we have to listen openly, like that woman, ready to be changed by the truth. What sin or unhealthy habit do you need to overcome so that Jesus is free to quench your thirsts? What will you do this week to hand it over to Christ? 1. In the first reading, why did a physical thirst turn into a sin? How does this still happen today? 2. In Romans 5, grace and hope are mentioned as gifts we receive when we have been "justified by faith" (i.e., when we've repented of our sins and sought forgiveness through Jesus). How do grace and hope quench our thirsts? How do they help us resist sin? 3. The woman at the well eagerly received what Jesus said. Even though he confronted her about her sins, she drank it all in and then, without shame, excitedly told others about her encounter with the Messiah. What need was filled by the truth? CARDINAL’S APPEAL With Cardinal’s Appeal funds, the archdiocese trains and provides nearly 1,000 staff who help with church management, providing more financial transparency and accountability in our parishes. Your contributions also enable us to certify leaders of religious education programs for 75,745 children, provide programming for adult faith formation and guide parishes in establishing youth and young adult ministries.

The Sacrament of Penance will be available for additional time on Saturdays during Lent, beginning at 3PM until 4:45PM; we plan to have the Sacrament of Penance between and during Masses on Sunday, March 29th; in Holy Week on Monday, April 6th and Wednesday April 8h there will be more opportunities for the celebration of this sacrament. Also, individual appointments for Penance may be made with Fr. Hernandez or Fr. Madden.

REFLEXIÓN DE LAS BUENAS NUEVAS: ¿CUÁL ES TU SED ESPIRITUAL?

¿De qué tienes sed? La sed es lo que sucede cuando nos falta algo vital. El agua es esencial para nuestra supervivencia física y nuestros cuerpos nos señalan cuándo es el momento de beber líquidos para mantenerse saludable. De la misma manera, el agua es necesaria para nuestra supervivencia espiritual, aunque sea una clase diferente de agua: el agua viva, que primero recibimos del agua bautismal que nos purifica para la vida eterna. Esta agua viva es un agua bendita que nos permite tener una vida abundante en Cristo. El Espíritu Santo es el Dador de Vida. Uno de los símbolos bíblicos que representa la presencia del Espíritu de Dios es el agua vivificante. Por lo tanto, podemos suponer que Jesús quería dar el don del Espíritu Santo a la mujer samaritana. ¿Por qué? Todavía pasaría un tiempo antes que el Espíritu Santo descendiera sobre todos en Pentecostés. Ella necesitaba la verdad; El Espíritu Santo es la Verdad y Jesús quería darle todo lo que ella necesitaba para arrepentirse, recibir la salvación y luego compartir esta nueva vida con la gente que la rodeaba. Él vierte su amor en nosotros en plenitud pero, para beber de él, tenemos que escuchar abiertamente, como esa mujer, listos para ser cambiados por la verdad. ¿Qué pecado o hábito malsano necesitas vencer para que Jesús sea libre de saciar tu sed? ¿Qué harás esta semana para entregarlo a Cristo? 1. En la primera lectura, ¿por qué una sed física se convirtió en un pecado? ¿Cómo sucede esto todavía hoy? 2. En Romanos 5, la gracia y la esperanza son mencionadas como dones que recibimos cuando hemos sido "justificados por la fe" (es decir, cuando nos arrepentimos de nuestros pecados y buscamos perdón a través de Jesús). ¿Cómo sacian nuestra sed la gracia y la esperanza? ¿Cómo nos ayudan a resistir el pecado?3. WE ENCOURAGE OUR PARISHIONERS TO RECEIVE THE HOST IN THEIR HANDS. DURING THE SIGN OF PEACE, WE ARE NOT SHAKING HANDS WITH OUR NEIGHBORS BUT OFFERING A WAVE OF THE HAND. WE PRAY FOR ALL THOSE SUFFERING FROM THE CORONA VIRUS AND FOR ALL THOSE WORKING TO PREVENT ITS SPREAD.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION The Religious Education Program office is open

from 10:00AM to 2:30PM Monday through Thursday and at night from 5:45PM to 8:30PM, Monday through Wednesday. Please call before you come to our office. All payments are made in the rectory office. Registration is closed for this year. There was a Confirmation meeting for parents in October and a First Communion meeting for parents in November. These were both important meetings. If you did not attend either one, you will need to call to make an appointment with Mrs. Cobb. There is an important packet that is dated and was handed out at both meetings. Packets will not be handed out to students. The next parent meeting will be in April for Confirmation, and for First Communion the meeting will be in March. All Confirmation students should have handed in the Saint reports that are now past due. Please continue praying for our students.
