SURPRISES Life is full of surprises, some pleasant, some not. The scriptures are filled with sto-ries of God’s surprises cropping up when they are least expected: younger children obtaining the inheritance; the lowliest being seated highest up; an itinerant preacher, killed like a criminal, exalted to eternal, heavenly glory. Anybody who has planned a wedding or similar event knows that they are filled with opportunities for surprises. For the bride-groom in today’s Gospel story, who has no di-rect contact with Jesus, the pleasant surprise came because somebody else paid attention and had faith in Jesus. We may think that the point of today’s familiar story of the wedding at Cana is that when we have faith in Jesus, our lives will be pleasantly changed. A Christian, however, needs to have a broader perspective and real-ize that to have faith in Christ means that somebody’s life—not necessarily our own—will be surprised for the better.

The students had two cards each so we know that everyone’s name got picked by at least one person/family. We ask for your continued prayers for them as they prepare for their retreats and to receive their Sacraments in April and in May. By your acts of kindness, these students are not only learning but practicing the power of prayer within our parish family. PROJECT ANDREW is a great opportunity to learn more about the life Christ desires each one of us to live. This is a short evening for men 16 and over with those in college or working encour-aged to attend. During this no pressure setting you will be with other young men who are curious about how Our Lord calls ordinary men to live an extraordinary life. The evening is not about pressuring you to become a priest, but discovering how God calls everyone to a vocation. Even if you are dating, you will better understand how to listen to what Christ is asking you to do with your life. This event is free and will be held at St. Pius X Church - Youth Hall, 5620 Gollihar Rd., Corpus Christi on Friday, January 29 at 6:30 pm. Please RSVP to the vocation office at 361-334-

2781 or email [email protected] if you have questions.
