From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear Parishioners:

As pilgrims and

parishioners come

through the great wood

doors and pass into the warmth of the grand upper

church, many have paused with a sense of wonder as

they take in the beauty of our church. The glowing

warmth is also reflected in the marvelous decorations of

this festive and Holy Season. I am extremely grateful

for the help and assistance of our maintenance staff, Mr.

Michael Hagan, Fr. Peter Linh, and Fr. Anthony

Michalik. Fr. Anthony is our resident artist in our

religious community. He has performed as an actor/

singer on Off-Broadway productions, offered

professional voice lessons, and worked for Tiffany &

Company in addition to Saks 5th Avenue. As a result,

he brings that wealth of experience to us at St. Peter’s.

For about a month or more before Christmas, Fr.

Anthony was purchasing supplies, six inch red ribbon

with the gold trim, ordering the size and quantity of

poinsettias from the same NJ nursery that supplies the

Christmas flowers for St. John the Divine Cathedral in

New York City. Every single wreath that is filled with

ribbon and lights, he has worked on in a 2nd floor guest

room that has been transformed into his workshop.

Immediately after lighting the 3rd Advent candle (Rose

Colored) the wreaths and the garland, with the

decorative swags began to roll down the hallway and

into the church. Hurricane candles and globes for the

lower church and wreaths in 3 ft, 4 ft, and 5 ft sizes

were hung outside, on the church walls and doors, in the

atrium, and by the shrine confessionals. So many people

who worship here regularly, and those who may be

visiting have told each of us how very beautiful the

church and its holiday decor are. On Christmas Eve as

the Boys Choir sang a magnificent program of carols,

with the soft dim lighting of the church and golden

lights from the trees and garlands, the mind and heart

were transported to the quiet intimacy of the stable in

Bethlehem.

I am so very grateful to the school children in

our 6th & 7th grade who changed all of the missalettes

and music book additions for us, and the dedicated crew

of volunteers who cleaned the upper church, lower

Queridos Feligreses:
