Easter Greetings, Alleluia! Jesus has risen! Alleluia! April 16, 2017

Alleluia! It is time to use the “A” word. See if you can use it 20 times this week, some at home, some at work, some in a social setting. It might be fun to see how others react and if it opens an opportunity to let others know about Jesus.

Alleluia! We celebrate salvation by our God. When we started this journey on Ash Wednesday we turned to acts of fasting, prayer and almsgiving to help us grow closer to Jesus. Many had success with their Lenten experiences; others found it hard to accomplish their Lenten goals. It is important to remember we are on a journey that can end in Heaven. Your willingness to serve others in the various liturgical roles is an example of a Christian community in action. We become just like the communities of prayer mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles. Thank You for your attendance and assistance in bringing Gods work to life through full and active participation.

Alleluia! Divine Mercy Sunday is next weekend at 3:00 PM. Reconciliation, Prayer and Adoration are part of the celebration. Please join in the celebration.

Alleluia! As part of the Easter celebration we bless Holy Water. It is a sacramental of the Church. Take a bottle home and use it to bless each other or your home. “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” COLOSSIANS 3:2

Do you put God first in all things? Possessions, money, power, ego can easily become gods to many of us. Do a quick check of what is important to you. Is God at the very top of the list? If not, your priorities need to be re-adjusted. Don’t let earthly things become a god before God.

Easter Reflection by Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life; Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, Catholic Book Publishing Corp.

Why do you look among the dead for One Who is alive? He is not here. He has been raised. Luke 24:5-6

How easy it is for people to seek the living one among the dead. Despair causes them to look to death as a solution. But death is never a solution. When we look to Jesus, we find the Living One, and He strengthens us to choose life.

PRAYER: Lord, we do not seek You among the dead. Grant that Your people may never turn to death to take away their pain,

but only to You, the Living Lord.

Ø HE IS RISEN. HE IS TRULY RISEN. ALLELULIA. ALLELULIA! HAPPY EASTER.

Ø There is no school on Monday, April 17, Easter Monday. Enjoy this season a while longer.

Ø It is with great pleasure that I share the news that my replacement has been found. Mrs. Jana Norgaard, a parishioner, will begin as principal of St. Philip’s School in July. Welcome, Jana!

Ø NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF PRAYER! Through my illness and recovery, I have been the recipient of tremendous prayers. Thank you all for them. I know God heard them and I know I felt them. Deepest thanks!

Ø St. Philip’s seventh graders will be attending Deep Portage this coming Tuesday and Wednesday as part of their Conflict Management program. May it be a rewarding experience.

Ø We will be remembering the 2000s on Friday, April 21, as part of our 90th Anniversary celebration. What a great way to go back in time.

Ø The spring Book Fair will be at St. Philip’s the week of April 24, with a family event scheduled from 4-6 P.M. on Thursday, April 27. Everyone is invited to attend.

Ø Our Kindergarteners will present their spring play on Thursday, April 27, in the church. Join us.

Ø The fifth graders will attend Character Challenge by Park Rapids on Friday, April 28, as part of their Conflict Management class. It is an opportunity for them to challenge themselves outside of their comfort zone.

Ø Also on Friday, April 28, the members of Fridays with the Father will travel to Moorhead to share a mission experience with the students of St. Joseph’s School. The next day, Saturday, April 29, the group will hold their “Homeless Walk”.

Ø Report cards for the third quarter were sent home with students on Wednesday, April 12.

Ø Go online to complete your Safe Environment Certification for 2016-2017. If you were certified during the 2015-2016 school year, you need to again be recertified this year. Please go to: www.crookston.org and following the prompts for Safe Environment. [Remember to “refresh” your cache once or twice.] This certification must be done annually and BEFORE you volunteer. PLEASE CHECK YOUR STATUS!

Thank You to everyone who donated to my Eagle Scout Project to plant trees and grave marker raising at Holy Cross. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Aaron Hoefer

To the St. Philip’s Community,

A heartfelt thank you to the St. Philip’s Community for the hope and prayers they offered for Ellen Vonasek as she put up a courageous battle against cancer the past seventeen months. A special thanks to all the staff at St. Philip’s, and to Fr. Chuck Huck and Fr. Don Braukmann. Fr. Don was so kind, visiting Ellen on a daily basis the last seven weeks, comforting her spiritually, bringing her Communion, and praying for and with her. I appreciate, from the bottom of my heart, all of your thoughts and prayers.

God Bless, Ralph Vonasek

LOW GLUTEN HOSTS Low gluten hosts are available at every Mass, daily or Sunday. Sometimes due to a medical condition, individuals are not able to receive the regular hosts that are used in Holy Communion. If you or someone you know needs a low gluten host, ask a greeter, sacristan, information station person, or a priest, we will be glad to assist. In order to receive: enter the communion line that is receiving from the presider. Indicate to the presider you wish a low gluten host. He will present the Body of Christ from a special pyx. For several weeks, Father Don, and Father Chuck, will be announcing the availability of a low gluten host at every Mass.
