Christ is risen! Alleluia!

In Mark’s Gospel (16:1-7) the women go to the tomb…a young man tells them “He is not here …He is going before you.” Jesus wasn’t about staying in the tomb and wai ng for us. Jesus is alive! Not only is he alive, Jesus has already gone ahead of us …summoning us to follow. Jesus has called us to be missionary disciples (as Bishop Ricken keeps reminding us), and Jesus is urging us to plunge into the tasks of doing as he did: healing, caring, raising up, telling the message of a God who has fallen in love with all of crea on. Jesus is running ahead and calling us – just as he did his early disciples in Galilea – to con nue his ministry of healing and feeding and giving hope to the oppressed. The “young man” told the women to tell Peter and the others: “…there you will see him..” You and I are asked to follow Him. Enjoy your Easter dinner, the dyed eggs and baskets of candy …but remember the reason for our celebra on. How would this day be different is we had just discovered there is more to life than we could possible have imagined? What difference would this discovery make on Monday morning? Lord Jesus, you came to teach us of life a er death, and you call us to see life with new meaning. Christ is risen! Alleluia!

En el Evangelio de Marcos (16:1-7) las mujeres van al sepulcro …un joven les dice “Él no está aquí ..ha ido por delante a Galilea.” Jesús no estaba por quedar en el sepulcro y esperarnos. Jesús está vivo! Y no solo que está vivo, pero ya ha ido por delante ..llamándonos a seguirle. Nos ha llamado a ser discípulos

misioneros (como nuestro obispo nos dice), y Jesús animándonos a asumir las obras que él hacía: sanan-do, cuidando, levantando, anunciando el mensaje de un Dios que está enamorado con toda la creación. Jesús está corriendo por delante y llamando – como lo hizo con sus primeros discípulos en la Galilea – a seguir su ministerio de sanación y dando de comer y dando esperanza a los oprimidos. El joven mandó a las mujeres a decir a Pedro y los demás, “allá lo verán.” Somos llamados también. Disfrute de su comida hoy con su familia, con los huevos pintados y dulces …pero que recordemos la razón de celebrar. ¿Sería diferente este día si acabamos a descubrir que hay más en la vida que jamás habíamos imaginado? ¿Qué diferencia tendría este descubrimiento para el lunes? Señor Jesús, viniste para enseñarnos que hay vida después de la muerte, y que nos llamas a ver la vida con nuevo sen do. ¡Ha resucitado! ¡Aleluya!

“Laudato Si” study group Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m., beginning on April 5th through May 10th, in the St. Philip Center, I’ll be offering a six-part study of Pope Francis’ encyclical on care for the environment. Our “Lent 4.2” has prepared the ground for a more in-depth study, and perhaps will inspire some practical applications here on the parish grounds and in our buildings. I’ll be using a small book published by Liturgical Press entitled“Reading, Praying, Living Pope Francis’s Laudato Si.” I have eight of the booklets available in my office, and more can be purchased ($12.95). You don’t need a booklet, nor do you need to read the encyclical … the invitation is to come and enjoy a presentation and conversation it might generate. All are welcome. “Laudato Si” grupo de studio Comenzando el 5 de abril hasta el 10 de mayo, los jueves a las 6:00 p.m., voy a ofrecer seis conferencias (en inglés) sobre la encíclica del Papa Francisco sobre el medio ambiente. Nuestro programa cuaresmal de “Cuaresma 4.2” preparó el terreno para un estudio más a fondo, y quizás va a inspirar algunas aplicaciones prácticas aquí en la parroquia. Voy a utilizar un librito con el título “Reading, Praying, Living Pope Francis’s Laudato Si” (Leyendo, Rezando, Viviendo Laudato Si del Papa Francisco). Tengo ocho libritos en mi oficina, y podemos comprar más si haya interés. No hay que tener el libro, ni leer la encíclica …la invitación es venir y disfrutar la presentación y conversación. Easter Sunday

“Think of what is above, not of what is on earth.” - COLOSSIANS 3:2

On this day we thank God for His Son, Jesus, who died

and rose for us. We celebrate and sing “Alleluia.” Let’s try to keep the joy of this Easter season in our

hearts throughout the year! Pray daily and listen for how He is calling each of us to joyfully use our gifts to

fulfill His salvation plan.
