THANK YOU ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC
PARISH
500 W. Marquette Street Appleton, WI 54911
Dear St. Pius X Parishioners, my family,
Thank you for your kindness during my time at St Pius X, and I am most grateful for the wonderful "sendoff", dinner, farewell wishes, and gifts this past weekend. I was especially taken aback by the music the choirs performed, not just the selections, but their wonderful voices I have grown accustomed to during my time here. It's not my practice to call attention to a particular soloist, as they are all so wonderful, but on Sunday morning when Earl Ruffner sang What a Wonderful World, I was so moved, especially when hearing the words:
As I look over the years, I think of many of our young people who were just children when I first arrived, how fast they have grown, and what a wonderful world it has become not only because of them, but because of all of you who I have gotten to know so well. I also recall all of the projects we were able to accomplish, but nothing was better than seeing you grow closer to God. Now God is sending two wonderful priests to carry on this task, Fr. Jim and Fr. Adam. Fr. Jim was in my support group a few years ago, so I got to know him over the years, and I can't say enough about his good heart and his Love for our Lord and for his people. I have known Fr. Adam through CYE; he is a man of prayer and relates so well to the youth. I was privileged to vest him last year for his deaconate. A former faculty member, Fr. Xavier Nacke from Conception Seminary College in Missouri where Deacon Adam studied, vested him Saturday for the priesthood. I am sure Fr. Jim and Fr. Adam have the same mixed emotions I am having during their transition, so please make them feel welcome as they begin their assignments. I can't think of any better hands for you to be in than the hands of these two Priests.
As I leave, I want to give you a little piece of history. When I attended St Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, most seminarians had a statue of Mary in their room. My statue had a crown that at one time was broken. I was allowed to have it, so I brought it home. I asked my mother if she could fix it. She didn’t try to form a new crown but made the crown into a single band around Our Lady’s Head. My Sister, Shirley, later put the gold band around her crown and on her garment. This is the Statue of our Lady that is now in the Adoration Chapel. When I was assigned here in 2005, I brought her with me and that is where she will stay as my gift to all of you. To all those who kneel before her Son in prayer – when you look at her, notice how much she embraces Him in her arms. I pray you and I will embrace Him with the same tenderness as our Lady does. Thank you for the many embraces you have given me during my time at St. Pius X.
God Bless you,
Fr. Tom Farrell
P.S. I was taught years ago by my dad to say the prayer: "Jesus, Mary, I love you, save
souls". Pray it often and always present your Soul to Our Lord.

All of the Knights of Columbus councils within the United States welcome this opportunity to announce that one of these “Silver Roses” is now on its way through Wisconsin. This Silver Rose had its origin in the Canadian Providence of Manitoba starting on March 5. Our particular “Rose”, before arriving in Wisconsin, will have traveled through Minnesota (April 9), then North Dakota (April 30), South Dakota (May 21), Iowa (June 18), Wisconsin (July 16), and then on to Illinois (August 13), Missouri (September 10), Arkansas (October 8), Texas (October 29) and finally to Mexico (December 9).
The Rose is presented to Our Lady at the Basilica in Monterrey on her Feast Day, December 12. The Rose passes through Wisconsin with daily prayer services at host councils. The prayer services are not restricted to members of the host council. The purpose of the route is to give everyone in the State - Knights, families, Catholics, and non-Catholics, an opportunity to place their prayers of thanksgiving and petition onto the Rose to be presented to her on her Feast Day.
Every council in the State should make an effort to inform councils and parishes of the Silver Rose passing through their area. Sample poster and bulletin is available either from the host council or from the State Coordinator.

We need to be like fireworks bursting with excitement set off by our love of God. So ignite your light and let it shine!
If you had to pick your favorite firework would it look like our Penstemon in its glory? So far this year, only one plant has been spotted near the Baby Monument.
The Hosta of the week to search for in the Hosta Garden, near the St. Pius X sign, is Pocketful of Sunshine.
The perennial Cranesbill Geraniums in our garden are located under the 10 Commandments Tree. They are compact, long blooming, and their seed pods look like a crane's bill. Shearing them to basal growth after blooming will encourage a rebloom. We have shades from white to magenta. If anyone has some blue they would like to share, we would take 1-2 plants, please.
Remember to be the spark that sets a good example for others.

We would like to congratulate Isaac Schwartz for being the Altar Server of the Easter Season! Our altar servers receive points for serving, being on time, wearing black pants or skirts, a white shirt and black, brown, or white shoes. Servers can receive a total of 3 points for the Saturday night
and Sunday morning Masses, and a total of 4 points for the 6:00 pm Mass. Congratulations and I thank all of you for your service and dedication to the Church and to God!
!' The following servers made the Altar Server Honor Roll: John Zepp, Lindsey Baehler, Isaac Schwartz, Aidan Martin, Carrie Schwartz, Lily Heuvelman, Isaac Berken, Caleb Tyree, and Evan Mayer. To get on the honor roll, they have to serve an average of once every two weeks and earn the 3 points that are available to earn each Mass. 12 points were needed for the Easter Season. Congratulations to all of you, and thank you so much for your service!

During July, recall in prayer how our nation was founded by many God-fearing individuals who sought to establish a nation in which there was the right-to-life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. For those who are denied the first right —the right to life—the remaining two are meaningless. Pray through John 8:32.

The purpose of our ministry is to offer a tangible symbol of God’s love and comfort through the giving of prayer shawls. We knit or crochet shawls to be given to people in our parish community in physical, spiritual, or emotional need of God’s loving embrace. The shawls have been blessed and have many prayers woven into the stitches. There is a prayer shawl request box located on the table near the West elevator. If you know of someone who could use this gift of healing, please fill out a form. You will be contacted to arrange delivery of a shawl to the intended person. Please join us at our monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of the Month at either 9:30 am or 6:30 pm, Contact Mary at 731-3953.

Would you be interested in preparing for the upcoming Sunday readings on an ongoing basis? A group meets from 6:30 to 7:30 am every Tuesday at St. Pius X in the Gresl Room. If interested, please contact Jim Eichstadt at 731-1706. There is a website which is available that will help you obtain a better understanding of the three readings. You can make Sunday’s readings part of your personal prayer during the week. Visit www.liturgy.slu.edu for prayer, spirituality, and scripture resources.

Are you or your loved ones in need of physical, emotional, or spiritual healing? Prayer can help. Healing Prayer Ministry Teams are available after the 8:30 am Mass in the Deacon’s Conference Room. The ParishFest committee wants to say a special “Thank You” to all those who volunteered and participated in this year’s ParishFest. Below is a comparison between this year and last year. Considering the two-hour close down from Saturday evening’s storm, the results were very encouraging. We are always looking for more committee chairs and ideas for next year’s ParishFest—June 1-3, 2018.
2017 ParishFest results:
Revenue - $67,300 and Net Income: $32,463
2016 ParishFest results:
Revenue - $71,915 and Net Income: $32,587
