Dear parishioners,
We have just completed a rather busy weekend: Confirma on Mass and a recep on for Bishop McGovern, followed by Fr. Costello’s funeral on Monday. With help from some dedicated parish volunteers, we were able to hold these extra events with the required social distancing, ushering and sani zing. I am grateful for those who gave their me and energy! We can always use addi onal volunteers. If you or someone in your family is considering some volunteer work, keep St. Raphael church in mind. The old saying reminds us, “many hands make for light work”.
We hope to con nue the Saturday 4pm Mass as we had before the virus shutdown changed so many schedules. Fr. Ed Pelrine from the seminary was lined up to start helping us just before the shutdown, so you will be seeing him at some Sunday Masses. Fr. Anthony Jelinek will be helping with some weekday Masses. You may recognize Fr. Jelinek from the local Catholic radio sta on and from Marytown, where he helped for a number of years. He was a refugee from Communist Hungary some decades ago, and no doubt has some interes ng tales to tell. Our Religious Educa on program is star ng up for the new school year. There is s ll me to sign up your child if you have not done so. Because the Milburn Middle school is not available this year, we will be running a cloud-based (online) program designed by Igna us Press. Students can learn at their own pace at home, but each class will s ll have a teacher. Teachers can add supplementary material and answer individual ques ons. Because in-person contact is s ll important, we hope to have prayer mee ngs for our R.E. families. Volunteers are needed to help with check-in, ushering and cleaning. Please contact Anne e Wynn, religiouseduca [email protected] to volunteer, or for ques ons. I know our online video Mass has been missed. A number a factors required us to suspend it for a few weeks. These include the availability of our volunteer videographer, and the special events we had this past week. The Archdiocese does have a local streamed Mass available through their website. Meanwhile, remember that you can sign up for either “in person” Sunday Mass now: Saturday 4pm or Sunday 9am. Signup is through the straphaelcatholic.com website as before, but please note carefully which Mass you are signing up for. I also want to remind all that your Sunday envelope dona on can be made online through the website. This is especially useful for our parishioners who are unable to a end either Mass.

RCIA Interested in becoming Catholic or need to complete your Sacraments of Ini a on? The process for this is called RCIA or, the Rite of Chris an Ini a on of Adults. The St. Raphael RCIA program is scheduled to run on Thursday evenings beginning the first week of October and run through the 2021 Easter Vigil.
Because of Covid-19, we are planning online mee ngs using Teams.
Adults needing just to complete their Sacrament of Confirma on can either join the St. Raphael RCIA program or register for a separate vicariate program for this star ng in early 2021.
