    FROM THE PASTOR…

Dear Parishioners, This Sunday, the shrine honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe will be evident in our altar area. Our Mexican parishioners—and others—demonstrated a lively Catholic faith at Saturday’s various events here: the torch run from the Co-Cathedral in Brooklyn to our parish; the sung presentation of the Mañanitas; the Mariachi Mass; the music/dance entertainment program and refreshments that capped the night in Michael Brennan Hall. Thanks to all who prepared and carried out these activi-ties for the faith-building, as well as for the entertainment, of our people. The ―best line‖ of the past week goes to Gloria Buckley, who was setting up our Christmas Boutique last Saturday in the rectory basement, when she heard the sonorous footwork of our Mexi-can dance group during their Guadalupe dress rehearsal in the adjacent church hall. Gloria won-dered, ―Why are all those firecrackers going off next door?‖! Speaking of the Boutique, thanks to the Buckley family and their assistant elves for a successful fundraiser. A brief report is elsewhere in this bulletin. At and after Thanksgiving, our Food Pantry received an abundance of welcome assistance. As always, Queen of Angels parish came through with its ongoing and appreciated food and mone-tary donations ($573 and $518). In addition, the Hunters Point Civic Association, in an effort spear-headed by community activist Brent O’Leary, delivered 1200 pounds (Wow!) of donated food to us. Their efforts were assisted by members of the Emerald Guild of Irish doormen in Manhattan build-ings, who graciously put collection boxes in the lobbies of their high-rises. Nearby Silvercup Studios, the largest film and television production facility in New York City, also conducted a generous food drive for our benefit. Last but not least, Aviation High School did the same. Moreover, this past Thursday, Christine and Ann of the Greek Catholic Union hosted another tasty breakfast for our Pantry clients. We are blessed to have all these partners in the work of the Pantry, and we express our heartfelt appreciation to them! As Christmas gallops near, we remind you of this Monday’s Advent Day of Reconciliation, a city-wide effort (similar to the one during Holy Week) to promote the reception of the Sacrament of Penance before Christmas. Catholic Churches in the five boroughs have confession available on this Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. See time/place info below. For those planning ahead, our Christmas schedule of services appears in this bulletin (as well as in this coming week’s issue of the Woodside Herald). Remember the Christmas Eve pre-Mass music program of Christmas songs by our choir and music ministry. That begins at 4:15 pm, and leads into the first Mass of Christmas at 5:00 pm. -Father Jerry Jecewiz

ADVENT DAY OF RECONCILIATION: Monday, December 14th, 4:00 to 8:00 pm: Note: 4:00 to 7:00 pm confessions in rectory. 7:00 to 8:00 pm in church.

the altar area, or leave them at the rectory during office hours. Be sure to tape the tag (indicating gender and age of the child) on the outside. Thank you.

    3. Congratulations to Tracy (nee Picardo) on the birth of her first child, Evelyn. Tracy used to work weekends here in the rectory office, but she now lives with her husband up in Syracuse. Mother and child are doing well.

    4. Some ―Generations of Faith‖ reminders: checks should be made out to ―Catholic Foundation of Brooklyn and Queens‖, not to ―Generations of Faith‖. Checks made out to ―St. Raphael Church‖ have to be cashed here and then exchange checks have to be issued. You can save us this ex-tra step by titling the check correctly. Payments (check or cash) can be handed in at St. Raph-ael’s. Thank you for your cooperation.

Thanks to all who supported our Christmas Boutique and Wreath Fundraiser last weekend. The total profit for the church was

1,275.00 - - thank you for your generosity! A special thank you to all the volunteers who

spread merriness to the parishioners while they shopped to support the parish.

    Merry Christmas!
