FROM THE PASTOR…
Dear Parishioners, First, a word of thanks to all who have made a commitment to the Annual Catholic Appeal 2017, either by mail or through the in-pew process last weekend. If you have not yet done your part, the commitment packets are available, in English or Spanish, at the rear of the church. We rely on the faith-community’s collaboration to reach our assigned goal of $37,183. Please lend a hand. Last weekend, we had a very successful children’s Lenten Retreat here, in Spanish. Approximately 125 children turned out — along with parents, of course. The participation was prayerful and encouraging. Thanks to our Pastoral Ministers and our Vino Nuevo Apostolate for coordinating this effort. Speaking of our Latino community, this afternoon we will hold the second ses-sion of what is known, nationally, as V ENCUENTRO —in English, Fifth Encounter. Deacon Jose Lizama will be making the presentation at this consultation / retreat / evangelization outreach aiming to discern and surface future lay leadership among Spanish-speaking Catholics. Holy Week is fast approaching, with Palm Sunday arriving next weekend. Our Holy Week schedule of services is included, in English as well as in Spanish, in this bulletin. It will also appear in the next issue of the Woodside Herald. Besides the official liturgies, I call your attention to two Holy Week events. The first is the Good Friday Street Procession, which begins at the church at 4:15 pm that day and is accompanied by the NYPD. The procession is followed, in the spirit of the occasion, by a ―Supper for the Soul‖, a simple bread and soup meal in Mi-chael Brennan Hall. Please join us. The second event is the decoration of our church for the Solemnity of Easter. This will take place on Holy Saturday, April 15th, at 11:00 am in church. Please note the time. We need many hands to put the flowers and plants in place to adorn our worship site for the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. If you’ve done this before, we hope we can count on your encore appearance. If you are a first timer, just show up and we’ll show you what needs to be done. Finally, St. Patrick’s dinner coordinator Elizabeth Buckley invites those appear-ing in the church vestibule photographs to take home their particular picture as a memento of that fun evening. -Father Jerry Jecewiz
