OVERVIEW

A number of controversies complicate the management of a variety of cancer types. It is increasingly difficult for the oncology practitioner to stay up to date on the rapidly evolving best management practices. This year, key speakers will describe clinical and technical controversies within the field of oncology, situated within the large fields of emerging clinical trial data, national guidelines, and diagnostic and therapeutic advances. The process of choosing the best treatment amidst a variety of options will be discussed. Case presentations will be used to illustrate the process of working through these controversial issues and identifying the best options for an individual clinical scenario.

OBJECTIVES

At the end of this activity, attendees should be able to:• Evaluate best options for treatment in a wide variety of

radiation oncology-related clinical scenarios;• Cite evidence for and against clinical approaches to

controversial issues in cancer management;• Identify single-platform or cross-platform radiation technology

solutions for complex clinical situations;• Relate the benefits of different technologies and biologic

advances to specific clinical sites of cancer;• Understand cutting edge advances in cancer research and

potential future therapies.
