Dear Friends,

Our Easter season is nearing its conclusion as we gather for the Seventh Sunday of Easter. We have spent these weeks trying to grasp the meaning of Christ’s resurrection and our own Baptism. Like the disciples, described in our first reading today, we gathered and devoted ourselves with one accord to prayer. In today’s Gospel from Saint John we heard one more passage from Jesus’ Last Supper discourse. If we believe we are the body of Christ here on earth, then the wonderful prayer of Jesus must be written on our own hearts: Father, glorify your Son IN US! Let us rejoice in Jesus’ prayer for us today as he did on the night so long ago for the apostles and journey this week with Easter joy!

On Monday we observe the national holiday, Memorial Day. Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Monday in church. What a perfect way to mark this day, with prayers of gratitude for those brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may continue to enjoy the freedoms of our great country. If you cannot attend Mass, please pause at some time between the picnics, parades and barbeques to offer your own prayer of thanksgiving for our national heroes! Because of the holiday on Monday, there will be no Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.

Just a reminder that the priests of the parish will be attending the annual Priest Convocation this week. We will be away from the parish from on Tuesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon. There will be regular Masses on Tuesday morning but Deacon George will conduct Communion Services on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 7AM and 9AM in the chapel. For those who wish to attend Mass on Wednesday or Thursday, Mass will be celebrated at 8AM in Saint Joseph Church in Warrington. Father Tom Duffy, a retired priest from Regina Coeli in Warminster, will celebrate Mass those mornings. We will resume our regular Mass schedule here on Friday, June 2nd.

On the topic of Masses, and for your planning purposes, we will begin our Summer Schedule of Masses in the parish on Monday, June 12th. Mass will be celebrated each weekday at 8AM and on Saturdays at 9AM. This schedule will be in effect until Monday, September 11th. Also, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will discontinue beginning June 12th and resume on Monday, September 11th. However, the church and chapel are open for your private visits each day until 4:30 PM. Please enter the church through the narthex doors located on the rectory side of the building.

This time of year we have many young people from our parish who are marking the graduation from every level of education. We congratulate them and wish them much success as they transition to a new phase of their academic journey and beyond! It is so good to see so many of our college and university students back home with us for the summer. It is always great to see you! Welcome home to Saint Robert’s!

As the month of May draws to a close, let us once again implore the intercession of the Blessed Mother, under her title of Our Lady of Fatima, for peace in our world, our country, our families and homes!

Saint Robert Bellarmine, pray for us!

With prayers,

Seventh Sunday O

FOCUS ON FAITH SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

Acts of the Apostles 1: 12-14; 1 Peter 4:13-16; John 17:1-11a

Today’s Gospel is a prayer, which appears at the conclusion of Jesus’ Last Supper discourse. At the end of the

prayer, Jesus is arrested in the garden. The prayer might be read as Jesus’ final commendation of himself to

the Father. In the prayer, Jesus also expresses care and concern for his disciples. “I pray for them. I do not

pray for the world but for the ones you have given me, because they are yours, and everything

of mine is yours and everything of yours is mine…”

What a beautiful reminder of the unity the Father and the Son and how beautiful that we, his

disciples, are at the heart of Jesus’ prayer to the Father! As we approach Pentecost, may we take

time this week to ask the Holy Spirit for an increase and strengthening of the gifts needed to be

good and faithful disciples!
