On Monday grade 3/4 had an amazing

experience at Marian College. When we

got to the college we went into the lab.

We saw some mind blowing safety

equipment, like eye wash stations and what

looked like a hose, but it was a safety

shower. Before we did the experiment we

put on googles and lab coats. We looked

like really cool scientists! Then we did the

experiment and used the most dangerous

liquid known to man…WATER! In the

experiment we used two thermometers

and hot & cold H2O (water). The cold

water heated up and the hot water cooled

down. This caused the temperature to

change.

On Monday we went to Marian College

Science lab. When we got there we put on

lab coats and eye googles. Then we were put

into groups. I was in a group with Alex and

Milkias. We did an experiment to see how

heat is transferred. The equipment we used

were, a medium container for cold water, a

small container for warm water, 2

thermometers, I cup of cold water & ½ cup

of warm water. We had to time the

temperature every minute for 15 minutes.

In the end the hot water and the cold water

were the same temperature.

ATTENTION DOG LOVERS As gorgeous as our doggies are, can you please not bring them into the school yard? We have a number of children who are anxious around dogs.

Social Justice is a huge part of what we do, say and believe at St Theresa’s and we are called to action. Jesus said: This is my commandment: Love one another as I have loved you. John 15:12-17 and that is exactly what we strive to do. Our Social Justice team is a perfect example of this.

The Social Justice team has been busy and are just about to get busier-and maybe a bit famous too! Throughout Term 1 the Social Justice Team met weekly to work with singer/song writer Phil Hudson to write a song about social justice and their hard work has paid off. On Saturday (yes, Saturday!) the Social Justice Team, along with a small group of volunteer singers, gave up part of their weekend to come into school to record their song! Their song: ‘Light the Dark’ offers hope to all those experiencing times of darkness. The song is currently being edited and will be accompanied by a video. If you’re interested, the lyrics to their song are displayed on the Social Justice Wall outside Marie’s office. Stay tuned for the official launch date and time! The children will be available for autographs after the launch! A huge thank you to the parents who dropped their children off and stayed back a little longer on Saturday afternoon. As you heard, they sounded wonderful! Thank you also to Laurie for organising the recording. Other news from the social justice team The baskets outside Marie’s room for winter warmers (jackets, gloves, beanies, scarves, teddies, blankets etc.) are quite empty which make us sad. It would be fantastic to fill these baskets up so that we can help the less fortunate in our community. Thank you to those who have already donated.

On Tuesday the SRC students, Gabby, Greta, Emily & Jovilyn went to Our Lady’s for a

Leadership day. There were many local schools involved. There were four guest speakers all

talking about their role as a leader and how they contribute to our society. Moira Kelly was one

of the speakers and she was very inspiring. We felt privileged to listen to her. She is amazing.

Bishop Long also spoke about his journey on a boat as a refugee and the beginning of his

priesthood. Alice Pung was hilarious and told us “To never let anyone put you down and always

persist.”

We learnt lots of valuable lessons along with some great ideas to share with the Social Justice

group.

Larissa will be away Friday and all of next week on carers leave. Angie will be taking her class for the time she is away.
