Dear Families,

Our School Vision : Guided by the Spirit we empower a community of excellence and life-long learners who are

inspired to make a positive difference to our world.

Amazingly we have made it to December and can visualise the end of the school year approaching. It

has been a year like no other and we will all be happy to return to normal in the foreseeable future.

Next week will be our last newsletter for the year where I will reflect on the year that has been and

give you some important dates for 2021.

SPORTS CARNIVAL

Today we held our annual sports carnival. Mr Matt Wals organises this event and does a great job.

The children ran, jumped, threw and relayed all day. They found their voices and cheered for their

house teams and supported their team mates throughout the day. It is an exhausting day but much

loved by the children and the staff.

RECONCILIATION

Tonight we host our third and final Sacrament of Reconciliation. The children in Year 2 have been

very reverent as they have waited and made this sacrament. It has been great to get back into the

church and feel God’s presence. Thanks to the Year 2 teachers for preparing the students so well and

Mrs Dwyer’s coordination of the event. The children were able to meet our new priest, Fr Dixon for

the first time as we welcome him to St Thomas the Apostle.

Next Friday, 11th December, our Year 6 students will graduate from

St Thomas the Apostle School, where most of the students have spent the

last seven years.

The day will commence with the graduation ceremony in the church at

12.00pm followed by a sit down lunch for the students in the gymnasium.

Following the ceremony and lunch the children will be able to let their hair

down with a disco.

It is disappointing that the children’s families cannot be in attendance this

year however we will film the service which will allow the children and

their families to watch it together later on Friday night.

Yesterday the students in Year 4 had a “Fun Day”. This was to replace the overnight camp that

unfortunately they could not attend this year. The children really seemed to enjoyed the rotating

activities throughout the day.

Music To be Confirmed

Below is our current list of teaching staff for 2021. At this stage I haven’t confirmed which particu-

lar class group they will be teaching, as this process is still being finalised. Please do not request a

specific teacher for your child. I can assure you that the class group placings have been rigorously

debated and thought through by our staff. All our teacher’s pride themselves on their professional-

ism and ability to bring out the best in your children.

We took possession of the Mumford Wing yesterday and the renovation has totally changed the

design and function of this area. It has created a wonderful light modern learning space for the

children. This is the start of the “Big Move” which will happen starting tomorrow and into next week.

We now need to empty the Patrick Wing and half of the Marian Wing and relocate these classes till

at least the middle of 2021. The teachers have been busily packing up their rooms in preparation for

the move. The school will be in some sort of ordered upheaval next week as the builders move to

begin work on the two buildings. Temporary fencing will be relocated to block off the Patrick and

Marian buildings and the teachers over flow carpark will be out of commission.

MUMFORD WING AND BIG MOVE

Next week on Monday, 7th December and Friday, 11th December, our Prep to Year 5 students will be

involved in orientation sessions with their 2021 teacher and classmates, including new students

transferring to St Thomas in 2021. This is an exciting time for the children and staff and once again

I need to emphasise that these class compositions are very carefully thought through and balanced

to the best of our ability.

reports. If you have any questions regarding the content of the report, please

discuss them with your child’s teacher.

Once again the wonderful charity organisation, St Vincent

de Paul, has asked St Thomas the Apostle families if they

could please support their 2020 Christmas Gift Appeal. St

Thomas families are asked to donate gifts to the Appeal

which will then be passed on to children who’s families

have been doing it very tough this year. Unfortunately some

of these families are unable to provide Christmas gifts for

their children.

The Christmas tree in the school foyer has been decorated

with gift tags with the ages of the intended recipients of

your donated gifts. All you need to do is choose a gift tag

from the Christmas tree and buy a gift suitable for the age

of child written on the tag, wrap it and place it under the

Christmas tree. Please ensure you attach the tag to the

gift.

We have all struggled during COVID this year, but if you

are able to provide a Christmas gift for a child that may not

otherwise receive one that would be greatly appreciated.

The families at St Thomas have proven over the years to be

very generous and I personally want to thank you for your

continued support.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL CHRISTMAS GIFT APPEAL

ST VINCENT DE PAUL CHRISTMAS HAMPERS

As the season of Christmas is approaching we are calling on your gener-

osity. We will be putting together Christmas Hampers for less fortunate

families in the local area.

Our aim is to bring joy to struggling families during the Christmas sea-

son and show compassion to those who do not have as much as we do.

Each classroom teacher has asked each child to bring a selected item in

order to make up one full hamper. Please ensure your donated goods

have a valid use by date.

Our school foyer has been inundated with hampers and gifts. Thank

you for your support and generosity it is greatly appreciated

Hampers will be collected on Friday, 11th December, 2020.
