Family Enrichment September 26-27, 2020: You Are Not Alone Retreat

Our Lady of Fatima Retreat House Retreat is led by Christine Turo-Shields, LCSW, EMDR Certified Thera-pist, Fr. Jim Farrell, Sr. Connie Kramer, SP with Loss Survivors Panel including Judy Proctor, and Lisa Thibault. Many suicide loss survivors feel they have few places to turn to, not knowing other survivors and also wanting to be supported by their church community.

This retreat provides a forum for faith believers and Catholics in par-ticular to come together to grieve, share experiences, and learn how God helps them on their journey of survival after a suicide tragedy.

Our Weekend Retreat hopes to offer tools to aid in grief work and survival through books, prayer, and activities. Registration Includes: Program, Meals, Snacks, Guest Room to use during the Program, & Optional Overnight Accommodations. Contact Jennifer Burger, Reg-istrar, at [email protected] or (317)545-7681 with further ques-tions on registration.

Third Friday of the Month Book Club

Friday, September 18th 7-9 pm Via Zoom

Ruth Moll has suggested Small, Great Things by Jodi Picoult as the next Third Friday of the Month Book Club book. A New York Times bestseller, this novel explores racism in America, both overt and subtle. Sensitive readers should be warned that part of the story is told through the perspective of a white supremacist and may be challenging to read.

From the recently cleaned Desk of Fr. Rob

Dear Parishioners:

This week we celebrate Labor Day and Patriot Day. On Monday, we celebrate the contributions of labor that has developed our great country and helped in its achievements. It is a day of thanksgiving for the gift of work and the dignity of the worker. It is also a time for us to pray for those who are seeking employment and for their families. On Friday, September 11, we re-member the horrific attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. We remember in prayer all those who died in these senseless terrorist attacks. We re-member the victims at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and those who perished in a field in Pennsyl-vania, as well as all the first responders who lost their lives trying to save others. It is a day of mourning and prayer, and we, as a parish, will be honoring those who died and their families at a Noon Mass, on Friday. On Wednesday, we celebrate the Feast of St. Peter Claver, who was canonized by Pope Leo XIII in 1888 and declared the worldwide patron of missionary work among black slaves. Saint Peter Claver ministered to the Africans in the Port of Cartagena where they were to be sold. He brought them medicines and food and assured his brothers and sister of their human dignity and God’s love. The Bishops of the United States are inviting us to join them on Wednesday in a day of fasting and prayer for Peace and Justice. A Noon Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Thompson at the Cathedral in Indianapolis. The Mass will be live streamed for those who want to participate but are unable to do so in person. In addi-tion, we will be celebrating this Mass, as a parish, on Wednesday, at 6:30pm. The celebrations and memorials this week gives us the opportunity to pray and reflect on the dignity of the human person and the sacredness of life from the mo-ment of conception to natural death.

Have a blessed week! Fr. Rob

Food Pantry The Joint Food Pantry task force is asking for your help to support the Fortville Christian Church Food Pantry. As we continue to navigate the pandemic, food insecurity continues to grow. Please take a green bag from the table at the back of church and fill it with the items on the list provided in the bag. Please return the filled bag to St. Thomas.

The bags will be delivered to the Fortville Christian Church for distribution. If you have any questions please contact Theresa in the office of Faith Formation. Thank you for your support.
