Principal’s Corner Parents,
During your child’s
school years, one of the
most important parts of
his education is
teaching him the
importance of attendance! Studies show that
when kids miss school on a regular basis,
their learning, and especially their literacy
skills, take a serious hit. Along with this,
younger students with poor attendance tend
to turn into older students with poor
attendance.
To keep your Justiss student on the right
attendance track you can:
*Take attendance seriously yourself! As a
parent, you set the tone
*Prepare at night!
Help your child set out everything he needs to
take to school the next day.
*Respect the school calendar!
When possible, avoid scheduling appointments
or family vacations that conflict with school.
*Talk to your child’s teacher or school
administrator if you are experiencing
problems that often result in school absences.
Justiss office staff and your child’s
teacher both want to work alongside you to
make school attendance a family and school
priority!
Your principal,
Reneé Elmore

Counselor’s Blog STAAR Testing Edition
As you know, STAAR testing Season is upon us for our 3rd and 4th grade students. Above you will see the dates and subjects scheduled for your child. Although these tests are very important, there are ways to help your child minimize the stress and maximize performance throughout the testing process. Test Taking Tips For Parents:
1. Talk about the tests at home. Encourage your child to do his or her best, but not to stress about it.
2. Give words of encouragement. Tell them to believe in their self! Remind your child that he or she has been preparing for this all year. They are ready. Tell them to use their strategies and they will do great!
3. Have your child get a good night’s rest. Rest is important in having people feel their best.
4. Eat a good breakfast. Students who are full can focus easier and longer than students who feel hungry.
5. Get to school on time. Students who feel rushed to get to school, start their day with anxiety, and anxiety leads to frustration and poorer test performances.
6. Make sure students have everything they need. They should be prepared with pencils and erasers, comfortable clothing, and a jacket, etc.
Things to Remember: ● Make sure your child attends school on the days
of the tests. ● If your child is ill, please call the office to
inform the school of the absence. ● Please do not schedule appointments for
testing days. We know your child will be ready for STAAR because they have awesome teachers and they are smart boys and girls. Please help us make their testing days SUCCESSFUL and STRESS free! Mrs. Irwin
