Hello!

We hope “Carl” has provided a Monday morning laugh!

Welcome back for episode two of the AUG staff teleconference series.

It has been a busy month or so since we last touched base with you all, something we know that is not unique to just our office.

We have traded Brendan out and brought Catherine in – thankfully this means we have not missed a beat and in fact have probably gained a few lengths in the ops side of the project.

This session focus’s on the changes since our last update and draws attention to a few other key event points.

Lets get into it…

OverviewA number of areas have progressed in the past few weeks and the key items of note are:

• Our first AWAD athlete has registered in Swimming

• The Games booklet is going through final proof and then printing – great work Sarah! • Maps are up for transport – again great work from Sarah with a lot of help from Karen!

• Volunteer numbers are now up to 150 • Over 600 hours of volunteer time has been completed on the project to date • Social program venues are confirmed • Ceremonies and special events are firmed up • Catering at all venues has progressed and is close to locked away • All competition management roles are now filled

• Competition Manager training sessions are now completed and only final updates with certain sports remain

• Recruitment is progressing well

• Feeling is that our recruitment has worked well and we will achieve our target workforce

• Volunteer induction training starts Friday 27 August

• Uniforms have landed in Australia and are making their way to Perth now.

• We have volunteers from every WA uni

Human Resource Management – General InformationWhat We Need From You• Drivers license – please scan and send this to Catherine ASAP• Mobile phone details – please confirm your number and what type of plan you are on• We need you plan so we can well…plan….the costs for the communications at event time

Vroom Vroom• Golf buggy idea is out and mountain bikes are in!

Feed Me!• Our private caterer has been appointed – Wild Spice…• In the coming “SLO-On The Uptake” you will be directed to a staff member feedback from.• Here you will select nightly dinners, highlight what you would like in your apartment for breakfast and so on.

No Thongs or Singlet’s Allowed • Please remember your AUS (or SMU/Curtin Uni) polo’s, jumpers, jackets etc for the week pre games• Event uniform will be in use from Sunday 26 September• Uniform standards are as outlined in our last session• Don’t forget your black pants, shorts or skirt • FYI - Fitzy promises not to wear a skirt

Human Resource Management – General InformationSaturday 25 September• The aim and best case scenario is to provide the afternoon off for the team.• This will allow those who would like it, the opportunity to watch the AFL GF.• The GF will be screened at the accreditation centre.• Those who do not care about the GF – you can do what ever you like.• For those involved with sailing you will need to keep in mind the 4pm Sport Specific Meeting.• Dinner on Saturday night will be an out of office meal and people can feel free to discover other parts of Perth if they wanted too. • A group location will be available for dinner for those who do not wish to think

Note:• If certain items in the event are not on track then Ian will call on those needed to continue on with work.

• There is no guarantee offered that the above plan will happen but it is the intention. If the entire team is needed to continue on for all of Saturday then this is expected as part of your role at AUG.

• It is also the intention that should work be required, we will use minimum staff resources where possible – meaning only those that need to work will work.

Sporty Stuff

Early Event StartAUG will begin sport on Sunday 26 September with Sailing Teams kicking off at Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club.

Event Riders These are a key tool for the delivery of the games. Each sport and venue has one already in use/production and all SLO’s will need to start interacting with their specific event riders.

Meeting One• Sunday 26 September• 3.30pm• UWA Crawley Campus (same location as Sport Specific Meetings)• Short and sharp covering essential event information• Uncollected sport team captains packs available for UTM”s at accreditation centre

Meeting Two• Tuesday 28 September • 4.30pm• UWA Sports Park hub area• Allow UTM’s the chance to discuss issues with PM when there is still time for action and help• Allow PM to seek help from UTM’s in any key areas• Aimed at being 20-25min long• This meeting will be followed by a 25min presentation and discussion on the 2011 AUG changes proposed by ISOC.

Where: Northbridge Piazza, Northbridge

When: 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

What: The final presentations of trophies for Overall Champion University, the Doug Ellis Trophy (per capita award) and the John White Trophy (Spirit of the Games). So join us in the final festivities of the 2010 AUG, as we also celebrate “Gold for gold day” in support of the Amanda Young Foundation.
