SNU Receives 5 Star Quality Rating As we reach the season of giving, let’s also reflect upon what has helped to shape our image as a community hospital throughout the year. Undergoing a transformation is a big deal and has necessitated, in some cases, that we change how we do business. With this in mind, we announced additions to our IT leadership, appointed a Clinical Nutrition Manager and Security Manager, Manager of Emergency Management and Safety, Administrator of Nursing Operations and Case Management Services and a Wound Healing Center Program Director. Additionally, we initiated the use of the Vocera Voice and Communication System among its clinical staff to increase workflow and to enhance the quality of care patients receive. The Vocera Badge is a lightweight, wearable voice-controlled device that enables instant two-way, or group, conversations using intuitive and simple commands. It’s widely used by mobile workers to communicate hands-free in an effort to enhance the delivery of patient care. Externally, our façade has also changed with upgrades to our parking lot using green technology and to our front lobby entrance. Our capital campaign is in full swing and we were fortunate to receive, to date, $1.3 million to help our ongoing transformation. Within the community, I had the pleasure of joining the panel at the Sullivan Renaissance 2015 Annual Conference – which allowed Sullivan County leaders to discuss positive changes coming to the area and especially to our hospital. As an organization, we participated in the RISE Walk a Miles in Her Shoes event, the Girls & Boys Clubs Celebrity dinner and hosted the annual Heart-A-Thon where more than $80,000 was raised for our cardiopulmonary department. We also honored our first responders throughout Sullivan County for their dedication to protecting the lives and safety of our Sullivan County residents. Our Medical Group continued to make great strides, attracting new physicians. The Group also hosted a healthy eating seminar at its Livingston Manor office where it also cultivated a community garden. As we approach the New Year, more exciting advancements are sure to come our way. It is imperative to remember our “Always” events. Caring. Communication. Cleanliness. Comfort. Coordination. “Always” events are defined as the behaviors that each staff member should take every day while interacting with patients and their families. Please have a wonderful holiday season! SNU Receives 5 Star Quality Rating

CRMG Nutrition SeminarCatskill Regional Medical Group’s Livingston Manor office hosted a FREE healthy eating seminar featuring Shelly DeHaan, Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator. After the discussion, all eyes were on the flourishing Livingston Manor Community Garden on Pearl Street right next door to the medical office where community members received a tour and were invited to rent space to grow their own food. Pictured to the right are Dr. Lauren Roman, of the CRMG Primary Care office, and Shelly DeHaan at the Nutrition Seminar.

Gardening Season Falls to a CloseLivingston Manor Community Garden at Pearl Street is a joint project between Catskill Regional Medical Group, Sullivan Renaissance and Morgan Outdoors to revitalize a community garden right next to our Livingston Manor Primary Care office. This was our first food-producing year and 10 community members took garden plots for their personal use.

“It’s great to have this garden right next to the medical group office and to utilize a once empty lot to grow food for community members to feed their families” said Jolie DeFeis, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Catskill Regional Medical Group.

The committee put the garden ‘to bed’ by covering the plot with hay to protect perennial plants from freezing over the winter, this season the garden produced a variety of vegetables and herbs including lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, garlic, basil, mint and more! And now, we are thinking about spring. If you have any suggestions on what we should sow and reap or if you are an enthusiastic gardener and want to help with maintenance and outreach, contact Lisa Lyons, garden committee member and owner of Morgan Outdoors, at [email protected] for more information.

Are You Photo Fabulous?

The Behavioral Health Unit at CRMC sends a big THANK YOU to all the staff that purchased or contributed any delicious treats to our Fall Bake Sale, as well as the BHU Council for volunteering to plan and host it! Everyone came together to raise money and support patient activities, and it was a success! We raised over $200 and will purchase bongo drums and other percussion instruments for self-expression, emotional regulation and fun social interactions in Expressive Therapy and Therapeutic Recreation groups. The patients said it best... “You all make a difference in LIFE!!”... “Drums will help the patients here open up and start enjoying life again. Thank you.”

Because so many people loved the fresh home-baked goods, we are planning on hosting another bake sale in February so keep a look-out!

**The Therapeutic Activities Department is always open to repurposing your donations! We use old greeting cards, calendars, magazines, reading books, etc. to creatively connect to the things we love and find purpose in life. Make sure you connect this holiday season too! For more information, please contact Chief Activity Therapist & Dance/Movement Therapist Sabrina Washington, at 794-3300 x2796.

A BIG THANK YOU
