I-205 IMPROVEMENTS Stafford Rd to OR 213
Urban Mobility OfficeOctober 14, 2020
I-205 IMPROVEMENTS
Project Issues & Benefits
Issues
• This two-lane section of I-205 creates a bottleneck, causing congestion and crashes, creating delays.
• Closely spaced on-ramps contribute to safety and travel-time predictability issues.
• The Abernethy Bridge and eight bridge sites are seismically vulnerable in the event of a major earthquake.
Benefits
• The addition of a third lane in each direction helps prevent bottlenecks.
• Extending the I-205 northboundon-ramp across the Abernethy Bridge increases safety and travel-time predictability.
• Seismically upgrading the Abernethy Bridge and replacing eight bridge sites in the project area ensures bridges can better withstand a major earthquake.
