IS IT A TRANSOM FANLIGHT OR A SUNBURST?
In the USA we use the term transom or transom light for the window over a door or a larger window. Arched or elliptical transoms, especially ones where the pattern radiates out like an old fashioned hand held folding fan, are referred to as fanlights. They are sometimes also referred to as sunbursts or sunburst lights. In French, a transom is a “vasistas”, in Spanish a “travesano”, or “montante de abanico” and in the UK, the term “overlight” or “hopper” is sometimes used. How Do I Measure For a Stained Glass Inc Transom? For existing transom windows, the stained glass panel fits next to the existing glass and fits within the existing frame. You want to measure the clear opening where the panel will fit. See the drawing below.
For new interior transoms over hallways or openings where there is no glass, the panel fits within the opening.
What do I Get When I Order a Transom? You get a laminated polymer stained glass panel in a metal frame. The panel is custom sized to slip into your existing opening.
Can I Get Custom Sizes? Absolutely. Custom is what we do. Your stained glass transom is made to fit.
Who do I Get to Install my Transom? Most people can install a Stained Glass Inc transom insert themselves.
The panels are made to fit and most installations take just a few minutes. If you are not a DIY type person or the job seems too large to do it yourself, any carpenter or window installer should be able to do it for you. What About Exterior Use? Stained Glass Inc panels are single glazed units designed to be installed as inserts on the inside face of your existing windows. You use your insulated glass windows for the outside face and then slip the insert up next to them from the inside. Can I Use My Transom Over a Wet Area, Like Over a Shower or Bath? Yes
How Soon Can I Get My Transom? We try to ship all orders in less than two weeks from approvals. If you need it even faster us know. We can sometimes speed up the process or use airfreight.
