StandardLabs
2016
"Standard Labs" are specific tests that should be obtained routinely(but not exclusively) in the patients presenting with:
- Suicide or self-harm attempts- Altered mental status- Vague or unclear histories of ingestion
"Standard Labs" include:- EKG with QRS & QTc intervals- Metabolic panel (BMP+LFTs or CMP)- Complete blood count (CBC)- Acetaminophen, Salicylate, and Ethanol levels- Urine drug screen- Urine pregnancy test (female)
Other possibly relevant tests include:- PT/INR
- Troponin- Lactate
- Creatine Kinase (CK)- ABG or VBG (+/- co-oximetry)
- Serum Osmols- Toxic Alcohols
- Fibrinogen- Specific Drug Levels
*These labs are NOT REQUIRED for every patient but serveas a reference for commonly utilized investigations. Every
patient presentation is different.
